Man I slapped a City Racer carb on my 1977 after getting it barely running on the stock carb.

No. Brainer.

$300 will solve a million headaches. Just do it. You have lots of parts off the first pig to sell to fund the venture. Do it right.

This is where I ended up after the weekend. I really don't have a ton of hours into it yet.

City Racer carburetor is inbound!

Also some of the led headlights for the 40.

She runs, but pretty badly. I pretty much have to let it idle around 1500+ rpm's or the engine will die. I wanted to take it for a new exhaust and the repair shop said they could deal with the crappy running to get it on a hoist so I loaded up and took her in Friday. This way when my new carb shows I will have the exhaust done and be closer to a real test drive.

Petunia got her plate today!

I put my City Racer carburetor on last night. I still need to set the idle mixture but it runs good enough for a maiden voyage around my woods.

I tried some new things for removing the spray paint too. Carnuba wax kind of works but slow. Goof Off is my new favorite, it really cuts the spray paint pretty quickly and doesn't hurt the original paint. I'm using a green scotch brite pad too. That may be too harsh for some things but the original paint is pretty far gone anyway so no worries.

Seeing some blue/white on the passenger side now.

My daughter's boyfriend wanted some extra work and kinda owes me because I helped him find and buy a nice built 4th gen 4runner so I put him to work on the piggy. He did a nice job of stripping the passenger side today. She's lookin pretty good.

Also, I received my care package from @cruiseroutfit Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters.

New tie rod ends and center arm kit. Nice parts fast. Plus he got me motivated for Pig Party 2019.

I need to sell some parts laying around to fund some new tires. I think I really want 33's. Does anyone have a thought on if a 1 1/2" lift shackle (1 1/2" over stock so 3/4 " of lift really) will be enough to clear a 33 inch tire? Kinda short on lift kit funds for now. Gotta build that turbo on my 80.

I did a 2” lift in back and a 1-1/2 lift in front and have 32” tires with tons of room

I built some shackles that were 2.5 in longer than stock (eye to eye) and ran 33x10.5 tires on stock springs, and stock shocks. Did fine.

did need to install some 4 degree shims in the front to get the steering feel back.

That's cool. i think i will likely build some too. Not too tough to draw up and have the sides laser cut

Combo of old/NOS add-a-leafs from Manafre and 1" longer shackles gave me about a 2 1/2 inch lift. That was more than enough room when I ran 33s, which I plan to do again when I'm done with the current 31s. Also gave me a bit more "rubber overdrive", which was nice on the highways even with my overdrive. Did add either 4-degree or 6-degree shims (can't recall without digging through records). Caster is still just a bit off. Doesn't seem to affect tire wear or driveability.

Thanks for the replies. Not like ordering an OME lift for an 80! This ol girl will see some camping and road tripping but likely won't ever do much of anything extreme. Unless hauling the dogs to the hardware store for free popcorn and incidentals is extreme. I want the look and especially the rubber overdrive mostly.
