For the record, I've had your part time kit in for about 8 months now and my mileage hasn't changed...always 13 MPG, uphilll, downhill, flat roads. Never changes.
doe you LC squats more with the part time?So 2500 miles later I'm getting about 11mpg on the highway up from 9mpg not figuring in oversize tires. Way easier steering and no more front driveline vibrations. I have added the arb deluxe bull bar and 9k winch. Right now I am making the olympic peninsula loop and getting about 9mpg loaded way down. I have wife and kids with all the necessary camping gear and clothes along with canoe on top.

doe you LC squats more with the part time?
i m getting vibrations so i pulled front drive shaft out but now my LC squats when i shift in gear i m debating to do part time ,double cardan shaft or work more on my caster correction
but looks like part time is kill two birds with one stone
with shaf or without i m getting 19-22 MPG
thanks good to know DC did not make any differenceI don't notice it squatting at all. But i have all new suspension bushings and offset trailing arms. I did a dc shaft up front but it made no difference in vibration thus the part time conversion. I did the conversion simply to get rid of the vibration. The mileage is on a 3fe and i did not expect gains. It's a giant torque monster i don't care about mileage.
I ordered and received the part-time kit, along with a whole lot of other F&R axle rebuild stuff, for my '97 LC. After installing it, and having issues with the hubs, we contacted Cruiser Outfitters. I overlooked the note on the first post of this thread that says, "NOTE: 4/1994 - 1/1998 80's will require replacement birfields featuring a double groove for the snap ring OR machining a second groove in the stock birfield for a lower snap ring.
So, my mechanic called Cruiser Outfitters and they recommended I buy spacers(cock rings) from Wit's End to remedy. Well, that didn't fix anything...so we called them again.....and were finally informed that new or remachined birf's were required...this few hour install has now drug out for over two weeks....
This is the email I received from my mechanic today:
After being told to buy spacers I am now being told the aisin hubs that Cruiser Outfitters sold you only work on aftermarket birfields or ones that are custom machined. Why they did not sell you them when you placed the order for a complete kit from them is beyond me.
You might give them a call tomorrow and see if they can discount you a set. Or if you want these machined let me know. Otherwise the marks kit was way easier to deal with.
We installed the Mark's kit on my 100 series previously. Easy.
So I am curious what you guys would charge for the kit and an install on a 91?
To be fair, the notes are clear on our website, here in this thread and on our vendor page here on the forum regarding the need to either re-machine the birf for an added groove or buy a birf with double grooves for all 4/94+ Cruisers. I can't speak with certainty if it was discussed at length during the order process but it's quite common for 94+ 80 owners to but the kits without as they plan to machine their own or perhaps already have RCV, Nitro's or other axles with the needed double groove. I'm told when your mechanic initially called he had already completely setup the entire front axle and was wondering why the c-clip groove was so far out with the first half of the AISIN hub installed. The spacer is advertised as a solution to this, hence the recommendation to do that or buy the birfs with double grooves.
Today we pulled the birf options we recommend on our site and again verified they will absolutely work with the AISIN hubs. I don't have that spacer here to test in a hub but we have some coming for use on a different application, we'll mock it up with our birf options and verify clearance before offering them ourself as a solution.
All that aside, let's get you fixed! We'll absolutely get you hooked up on a set of birfs and I'll toss in all the gaskets and star washer, clips, etc needed to swap them out. Give me a shout at the shop tomorrow and we can discuss the options and we'll do our best on the birf cost.
MYTH BUSTER
Some clarity needs to be made on the myth on Aisin hub, 8mm spacer, and stock birfs need to made. Using a 8mm spacer will NOT let Aisin hubs work in place of a needed 2nd groove. By using a 8mm spacer the factory needed snap ring on the end of the stock birf WILL come in contact with the Aisin hub face and NOT work.
A 8mm Spacer will work and are included when you buy POS AVM hubs for an 80 or 100 series.
