I spent about $500 total on everything I needed. You can buy better paint, but honestly this stuff is good, and plenty good for an off road vehicle.

I'll have to add up everything. But for the two 60s we're doing now; ballpark is 1100.00 and I bought a LOT of sanding discs and even an extra gallon kit of black paint just in case for the UTE.
Single stage is good paint (especially compared to even 5 years ago) and it is repaired easily. Paint dab, high grit sandpaper, polish and back to looking great.

I rattle canned the hatch on my LX. Sand dollar pearl, and honestly I'm real happy with it. So, I think I could do alright with a rig.
PO was keyed all the way down the passenger side and seeing this makes me think I won't have to spend a fortune having it repaired at a body shop. I'll just fix up outside at my house! haha

Learning to paint vehicles is a rewarding process. Once you figure out how to operate and tune a paint gun, it's great. I've never done single stage: always 2-part primer, color coats, then 2k clear coat.

I have done a lot of aerosol painting over the years. You can totally make that stuff look good on some things. My favorite is Krylon, it’s the best in my opinion. It dries fast, and looks very good. I hate all that Rust Oleum junk. Hard to find Krylon anymore though.
I agree. I used to paint small metal brackets, etc. with Krylon years ago and always loved their products. Sprays smoothly and easy to control, good durability, just a great product all around.

@kelly saad is going to start a paint thread in the 60 series.... We got my Poppy rig in 3 coats of 309 Freeborn Red today. This is what you get from me for now.

Get in line guys, if you are wanting a refresh or a full color change, IMO you can't go wrong with Kelly. I'm very happy with the results. I've painted many cruisers (13 and a FEW other projects) and he is several steps ahead of me in technique and skill.

It was a sad and heart wrenching day for me today. The house in the background belonged to one of the best men I've ever met and I found out today that he passed away on Monday. His friend came over and told me today. They had a BBQ on Sunday and he told him he was excited to come over and see the cruisers painted. He had watched me build several things and he was a ratrod freak. I helped him wrench on his oldies and made him parts that were NLA for his cars and welded several things just because. He watched out for my shop for me like it was his own.
I was telling Kelly what a cool old man he was this past week and what creations he had made.
I'll miss you my friend.

That sucks man, sorry. I think you suspected something was wrong when I was there.
That sucks man... I've lost 2 very close friends to suicide (and im only 15), so I know how it feels to loose someone close.. Power through it and everything will be okay

The wet sanding you did after the paint - how much time/$$$ would that step add to a paint job? Would you go to that level of finish on a "regular" respray?
My '84 Pickup is at the bodyshop right now - they're scheduled to start on it this week...
- Replacing the doors and fenders with perfect O.E. used doors and fenders
- Not painting a bed - building the truck as as flatbed.
- Not changing the color - O.E. Creme
- Single stage
(and yeah... it's getting new wheels, tires... and a bumper.... and marker lights... and carpet... )

Not really sure what the wet sanding would add, because I do it on every paint job. It’s just so much better afterwards that I don’t consider it an option really. We sanded the red 60 more than my blue one, so the orange peel is pretty much completely gone. That truck will be sweet!

Yeah I was wondering if he was sick or he was tending to his mother again. Today the dog catcher was there trying to snag Daisy.. I need to video that, it was hilarious. She is a true JUNKYARD DOG. I asked if a family member was taking her and he said no we had reports of aggressive behavior....
Me and that dog have snacks together regularly.... "RUN DAISY RUN" She will come to me, but I'll feed and water her through the fence. Today with her weekend Milk Bone treat.
I'd take her but I think she'd wander off. She was always a loner even when Chuck was alive.

Hate to see a dog left behind like that. She is probably confused as hell that the old man is not around. If you keep being patient with trying to attract her to food maybe you could snag her and at least get her to a better rescue situation than the dog catcher will get her to. One of my rescues was labelled aggressive and unadoptable by the pound. After training and time the only aggression he shows is withering stares when you fail to scratch his belly in a timely fashion. There are rescues down here that will keep truly unadoptable dogs for life, in better circumstances than the local kill shelter. There's probably/hopefully something like that near you?
