Yet another stint overseas, but this time I came back to toys 😎. The new oem tool roll is great but I had it stuffed so I finally find an oem zip bag, it all fits much better.

Then the 40 series h55 lid arrived. Idk what else to hunt for now….maybe a 80-84 full float rear axle to pair it. Once my replacement switches arrive for the ultrasonic I can dip it and clean it up.

Wow, I can’t believe you found one!
That is awesome!!!

Had a little downtime and @The Machinist let me park in the garage while it snowed to do the galley plug and finally found a -60100-84 VR and bolted it on, along with some prettier zinc hardware.

Galley plug was quick and easy, it had been weeping for 6 months very minimally so of course I chose to wait until winter.....I might get a 12mm set screw instead of the 10mm as I prefer the flush fit. @Ackcruisers made a good point that the 150 jets are disappearing so I snagged the last two in USA stock....maybe that is all that is left? Amayama says NLA, we'll see. I used one a few years ago but never remember much difference, so I'd like to try 150/220 again....plugs are a little more gray than tan/gray so we'll see.

Did you convert from a SS VR back to point-type?

Dropped into ultrasonic - much cleaner now. To the shelf it sits until I wrap up the Ram and decide/locate the rear axle.

Are you flipping the rear spring pack/extending wheelbase?
No, just replacing the bushings is all, they creak a little due to the undersized shoulder.

In other news - I had an actual failure. The W14EXR-U (purchased from Toyota) failed on cylinder 3. I noticed a misfire when going to work and sure enough, followed the misfire to cylinder 4 when I swapped plugs around.

The electrode was burnt looking which was unfortunate. The plugs have been on the truck for about 13-15K miles which is unfortunate. The rest of the plugs were in great shape....so I'm a little curious if the heat from high rpm highway driving killed it.

That said - FJ62's use W16EXR-U so I opted to bump one heat range colder, so far it runs great again. Since it is electronic ignition I've gapped to .035 to start and will bump to .039 and see how it does.

I had a plug fail similar recently as well on a customer truck.

I heard that too. I think it was on Dan's interview with him on his podcast.
Well sheet.
I wonder what the “problem” is?
I was using NKG up until the last plug change on both rigs…

Possibly try the MR-2 turbo plugs? Sorry I don't know my part number there. They are a good choice in the SC application and considering today's garbage gas and the need to roll with traffic, may be a good choice.

@mattressking are your fitting those 35s on the factory tire carrier? If so are you running a wheel spacer? Thanks.
Yes, factory carrier and I’m using a 1.5” spacer. I’ve got a spare spacer as they came in a pair of you want it - we can just split the cost.

Been doing some maintenance lately….two were sort of annoying…

1. Radiator replacement, my genuine oem sprang a leak at the seam so I had to warranty it through Toyota. Got it all installed and done. Pretty boring stuff, just a bit of cleaning.

2. Oil pan replacement. Should’ve done this when I had the motor out but I was cutting costs. The skid plate would drip a few drops every few nights and would leave a mist under the chassis so it was time to swap to a new one. Mellow afternoon swap, love how easy they set in place.

Been covered a few times but a comparison of factory bolts to the best available option. Courtesy @OGBeno and cruiserdans findings.

3. Rebuilding the HE351 for my impending 12v swap. Cummins makes parts buying as easy as Toyota and I love it. Now I wait for parts and vapor blast / cerakote.

4. Oh and I slapped on the Arb a few weeks back and wired in the Koitos. I love these fogs - so bright and super nice cut off. Couldn’t recommend them more! Paired with new Yazaki bullet connectors and we’re stylin.

My 76 FJ40 came from factory in same Olive color, I rebuilt in 1990 and painted it Red......now getting ready for a re-rebuild and cant decide on color

Really torn between Olive and Mustard.....the Olive is much more uncommon
