The factory is not going to put a catch can on it because of the maintenance interval. Most car owners aren't going to empty the can once a month or once an oil change. Add in the fact they want it all going through emissions, and most owners won't ever look into their intake. Now you have a reason not to add one to a factory engine. Mr T doesn't do everything for the longevity of the motor. One less part means more money for them. So I guess you have a couple reasons NOT to put one on.

Plugging off the EGR is also a good idea if you want to keep the cruddies out of your intake. I did this along with the resistor mod so that I don't get the P401. I pass emissions with ease.
I have a simple air/oil separator from Home Depot that's been doing a great job for years now. I'm not forced induced though.

I think it's a good idea. I know this is not a 1FZ, but I don't want the blow-by lining the intercooler or the intake manifold...

Yes, I could've used a smaller EBay catch can, but I wanted a can that was clearly visible and deep enough so that trapped oil wouldn't get sucked up on steep inclines.....

Heres mine. Its a retro fit of the morosso mustang oil catch can. Its fully serviceable with internal baffling. Works great but Pricey tho.

Recently installed one on my 97, and after about 2-3k miles I was surprised how much was in there. I do burn about a quart of oil every 1-1.5k miles.
After pouring out the top layer, i did notice some “pure” oil on the bottom.
Will need a head rebuild probably when I do my head gasket.

I ran a catch can on my DIY turbo setup. It worked, but keep an eye on it for water. If it collects much water, beware not to let the lines freeze on super cold days. Best to mount in a semi-warm location in the engine bay. I plan to run one again when I get a turbo back on the truck.
PO put 260kmi on original block with pneumatic oil separator bowl on the PCV line. Clean & dry was a good sign I thought, but after upgrading to a larger can w/ brillo collected ~1/4 cup over 4300mi.

what brand separator is this? and did you just unscrew the bowl and add the Brillo? I am trying to figure out what the best catch can would be, I don't mind spending a little extra for something clean looking and that maintains proper vacum/airflow.
This is the one I happened to buy with brillo included. Just noticed they offer the kit w/ L-bracket option:
IF the oil 'catch can' you select comes with a 'particulate type filter' pull that out and put some type of Brillo/Scrub pad in there. It will do a better job of quickly capturing the oil 'mist', having it condense and drop to the bottom.
