Oh yeah it starts right up and will drive down the road.... trans is just on its way out so I wouldn't say how far down the road... might be thousand of miles, might be 20 miles

I had two of those, an '88 4cyl w/ 5-speed & an '89 SR-5 with the 3.0slow auto.

To put it in perspective, I bought the '89 in 2002 for $4k and it had 160,000.
$3k seems a bit steep. I'm sure you could talk him down.
As mentioned, check head gasket, hardtop side window frames rot out too. Check the seals on hard top as it's probably been off more than once.

No worries dude.... if I have to fix it at least I know that all the weak links will now have been fixed and can just enjoy it for another 250k :cheers:

Strangely enough in my craigslist searching I found an upgraded turbo, down pipe and exhaust that sells from IDparts for $2000 about 5 miles from me for 1/4 of the price..... with that and a tune I could spit out 345 ft/lbs with new injectors closer to 400 so i'm not going to die if we keep it.

Looking for a class 3/4 trailer hitch for a FJ60/62.One with the 2 inch receiver. new / used / whatever you got that is still decent shape/ can be blasted and painted better.

FS: Aussie Locker for FJ40. I've had it for several years in the rear of my 40, and I'm finally going ARB. It's very low miles, since I rarely drove Dozer on the road. Now that I'm getting her more "dual purpose", it was time to upgrade:
