Any fellow 200 guys attending Cruise Moab this year?

Sadly no for me. My first miss in a over a dozen years. A few guys from the shop will be there representing, likely in 200's

Registration opens up very shortly so decide quickly, the best runs fill up within a day or two.

I'll be there. I am leading Metal Masher Thursday and gunning Steele Bender Friday. Saturday, my daughter an I will run Fins and things on our own and then pack up and head home. Fins is our favorite trail and it wouldnt be a good trip without running it. The two of us will be done by lunch which gets us home early evening. I HATE going back over Vail pass in the dark.

I will be out there on Monday ahead of the event running trails with friends and hanging out by the campfire if anyone else wants to come early. Cruiserdan and I always find something entertaining to do ahead of the event

We will miss you Kurt!

It's honestly really eating at me to miss it, especially since it's the 10th anniversary of my baby the Swell Overnighter. :(

But alas a man only has so many heartbeats and I'm already thinking of ideas for the 2019 Cruise Moab event.

Alright, screw it, I'm in as long as I can get time off work. Just sucks San Rafael overnight and Hells night run are both on the same day. Both sound pretty awesome.

Also, sent a volunteer form. Figure I might as well help out too.

PNW Help needed:

As new retirees, the wife and I planned a May/June western states loop that had Seaside, OR as the northwest corner before we turned back east.

That plan included a drive down the Columbia River Highway (and I-84 as necessary).

Living in Florida they really don't cover much about the extent of the Eagle Creek fire. I think Oneonta Gorge was badly damaged and I saw that the Benson Bridge is closed due to a boulder falling but other than a messed up view of Multnomah Falls I don't know how other parts of the drive were impacted. Did the fire reach west back to things like Vista House and/or Portland Women's scenic viewpoint? How far east?

Basically, go ahead with the plan, or should I look for a route a bit north (or south) of there as we head back east?

Nice! Lets meet up if I can make it.
In the LX or Tacoma?
You camping or hoteling?

Most definitely! I haven’t decided yet to be honest but there’s a chance I’ll bring both. I may come out early like on Monday or Tuesday in the Tacoma and camp solo until my wife joins on Wednesday and brings the LX down. I’m actually more comfortable wheeling the 200, but the Tacoma is more kitted... I’d need to add the sliders to the LX for sure before the trip if we’re going to wheel it!

I might make it to Cruise Moab this year too... Would love to meet up with y'all.

That would be awesome. It has moved to kane Creek Campground this year. They are just trying to identify a few more trail leaders before opening registration

I get there Monday as well to just wheel what ever we feel like for a few days before the event

The fire moved pretty fast due to winds and left clumps of green within the burn. It's a large burn area to be sure. It's hard to see the extent of the damage from I-84. Haven't traveled the old scenic highway to know what that is like. From 84 you can see that they've been doing quite a bit of work. I don't believe it made it to the Vista house or Women's forum.

Honestly, for me the gorge area is too heavy with tourists and Portlanders anyway; not something I choose to use recreationally. Yes you get to see the mighty Columbia and Multnomah falls is pretty spectacular. Hwy 22 heading over to Bend is another great drive with it's own set of features, hikes, and viewpoints. A little further south is Hwy 58 which is a little more remote.

If you're just driving through 84 then I wouldn't let the fire be the decision maker. OTOH if you're going to stop and hike then it justifies more research.

My favorite part:

International expedition guide Magnus Eriksson broke it down for me when I was working for him in the land down under: “You wanna go bush, you get a ’Cruisah. Can’t afford that, you get a Patrol. Can’t afford that, you get a Pajero.”

So who were Jeeps for? “Idiots.”

And Land Rovers? “Fancy idiots.”

Nice, three of us is good enough for me.
I'll probably try and book a (refundable) hotel here soon for the non-overnight days.

Jackson

Jackson was at the Breck event and is also now the President of the Rising Sun Club the sponsor of Cruise Moab. I bet there will be a few more. His 200 is pretty sweet and has upgraded to the Tundra front end setup

And don't forget Slee. He will be leading the Saturday Fins and Things Run

Hey...

Have you guys registered already? Their site says mid February, but I don't see a registration link anywhere.

Anyone know what the latest is on that?

Would be fun to do some trails together & sign-ups etc.

Not yet. I've been checking a few times per day. Once I know which trails are which day I'll be set. I'd like to go to the Swell overnight and do Hells at least as I may have a lady passenger I look forward to scaring the hell out of on The Gate.

They are trying something new this year and are trying to arrange trail leaders ahead of opening registration. It hasn't opened yet. They are still short a few and this has kept them from opening registration, they are a month late from the typical open.

Like I said, I am leading Metal Masher on Thursday, Gunning Steele Bender Friday. And Saturday, my daughter and I likely will be running fins on our own as we can get out and pack up faster. Your welcome to run with us. Slee is leading the official Fins Trail on Saturday, we will be hitting it about an hour ahead of them.

Elephant Hill is also a very fun long day trail the squeeze is a bit tight on 200's and I have been thinking of doing that Saturday instead and heading home Sunday.
