They are standard on DX models like mine, I went the opposite route and installed struts. The rod is still in place but has not been used for ages.

This is what i found on toyodiy for my model

You will need the rod (obviously) grommet, and holder-hood stay.

You would be far better off IMO sourcing them from wreckers in AUS, there must be thousands of ex mining, cop, gov vehicles etc. sitting around going rusty. Aside from the grommets and clip, I cant see the rods being a hot item here.

I used one off a 90 4runner. Just a minor amount of bending and it works great.

Here is a few pics of my DIY prop rod. It is just 5/16 rod stock, rubber grommet and spiral wrap. DSCN1508.webp DSCN1511.webp DSCN1510.webp DSCN1509.webp

I always thought the prop rods were annoying until my hood slammed down on my head. 80 hoods are not light! When I bought my 70 I tried out the prop rod in my 80. I added the prop rod to my list errr, "Book of Mods". It is number 119 in the book...

might want to move it up the list a bit, the OEM 60 series rods are no longer available from Toyota

53452 90351 = Holder Hood Stay for almost every Toyota - US market
90480 15002 = Grommet for a number of Toyota models, including the 60 series - US market
53420 60010 = Support Rod, 80 series - non-US market part

The issue is that the last part has not been available in the US, and the 60 series ones have not been available for a while. As earlier posts noted, you may have luck in the junk yard, or with other models.

As Beno mentioned most any rod will work.

Finding any Land Cruiser at a junk yard in eastern Iowa is virtually impossible. I called just now to check, as I do every couple of months, the two LCs they have are 40s. They have had them for 6,000+ days. They haven't had one since these since they got these two. Ugh. My hood structs are less than a year old so I'll hold off for now.

there's a guy in the quad cities area that used to have a bunch of cruiser parts. matt tarnow. great guy with some sweet cruisers. this was his email about a decade ago
midammatt@revealed.net

if you get ahold of him, tell him ige says hi.

mine came off a junkyard fj60 for $6

I ordered everything from cruiser parts.net a couple of weeks ago. They have it all in stock. It fits perfectly.

Yup, that's the link...I called as I had other things to order. The rubber grommet and clip that hold the rod to the radiator support are separate but it's only a couple bucks.

I thought I had a 60 rod prop but the angle isn't right. It will not sit over the radiator support nor will it clear the support when vertical to slide into the slot on the hood.

Anyone have a picture of an actual 60 prop?
