Started cleaning the engine today so I can get a good look at everything. I noticed that one of the only 3 header nuts that are present was loose. There are only 2 nuts on the front studs near the distributor and one on the stud farthest to the rear. The rear nut was the one that is loose...I went to tighter it up and, of course, found out that the head threads are stripped ...
.looks like quite a few are stripped.
Im guessing I should just fix them all, any suggestions on a repair kit and also new studs and nuts?

Got the carb rebuild kit, going to get all new vacuum lines later this week and start getting some of this stuff taken care of

Dang, that's a bummer. I had one strip out on a 20R head and was able to reach it with a right angle drill to drill it out and install a helicoil without removing the head. If there was more than one, I probably would've just pulled the head and had a machine shop fix and rebuild, then new gaskets and button it back up right.

I don't know of ih8mud vendors specializing in the hilux/pickup but I could be wrong

online toyota/22re specialists I would use again:
lceperformance.com
yotashop.com
22reperformance.com
209yota1.com

your local toyota dealer parts department may or may not be good (SoCal has a couple well known dealers with good parts departments, I'm just not down there so I haven't kept track)

overseas based toyota OEM parts sites:
megazip
partsouq
7zap

that should get you started.
I look at marlincrawler.com for suspension/drivetrain/body stuff. They don't sell engine stuff on their site, but Marlin can rebuild factory carburetors.

No kidding. California is rich with discount dealers. Some offer free shipping on $75 or more. Here is a screen shot from my favorites.

How are those dealers with having things in stock? Do you know if they have there own inventories? I’ve tried a bunch of the bigger Toyota dealerships, but am almost always disappointed because when they say something is in stock it’s almost always discontinued when they process my order.

Inventory? For old junk? I can guarantee everything will be special order. Fortunately, the Toyota distribution warehouses are in California as well. They are usually stocked.

Been researching the stripped exhaust manifold studs....some people have had luck using a bolt rather than the stud. The idea is to use a bolt that is slightly longer than the stud so as to grab new threads that the stud did not reach.
Anybody here try that, or am I better off repairing the threads and using new studs?
Wanted to start on this this weekend, but just tested positive for corona so probably gonna be down for awhile.

Repair. Do it right. Especially since there is more than one. The Helicoil/Recoil will be much stronger than the aluminum.

There was a recall on exhaust manifold studs at one time. Check with Toyota and see if yours was done or even covered.

Will do
I am ordering the repair kit and a new set of studs and nuts...
Is this the kit I want or is there a better choice? Amazon product ASIN B07W3LGGHL
I would look for Helicoil or Recoil brands. NAPA sells one of the two. There is a third flavor that some folks prefer, but I don't remember the name right now.

Is it a header, or manifold. Manifold, probably a good idea if it looks even slightly warped. Yes, 10x1.25.

Thanks pappy I will get those ordered.
It is a header, not manifold
As I recall, headers are welded on the manifold side, not the tube side. Surfacing is not recommended for that reason.

I lucked out and found a vintage 83 manual under the seat of my truck. Only covers 79-83, so it has way more info than the new ones that try to cover all of the newer EFI and IFS trucks in the same number of pages.

Grabbed an old school Smittybuilt front and rear tube bumper off craigslist just a few minutes from my house tonight. $100 for the pair, the fronts pretty rusty but its only surface rust and should clean up nicely...

Good day today, got my ECM, vacuum lines, exhaust studs with nuts and exhaust gasket in the mail today. Also ordered new dash pad from a local toyota dealer for quite a bit less than I thought.

I made the mistake of reading some resto threads here... thats going to cost me :)
