Way to get after it! Super cool shop and rig.

I POR’d my 76’s tank. No idea if it had a leak, more of a preventative measure in my case. Rig was torn apart in 87. Tank was in dry storage until I restarted the abandoned project back up in 2013.

I have two serviceable filters(100 micron & 40 micron) I’ve checked both filters a few times over the past couple years. First check I found a small flake of the POR sealer in the 100 micron. No big deal and clean since then. I posted before and after photo’s. :beer:76 FJ40 Resto advice needed (now a documentation)

Sweet. I think you'll find the ls motor pretty easy to wire, especially if your not using emissions. It is time consuming though.

Im lucky, my buddy Rob is an ls wiring phenom and has my harness.

No harm in trying it i figure. Mine is seeping along the ds seam, not a huge leak but enough to make the interior smell like gas. Good to hear it worked for you.

A few friends sopped by just as I was finishing up disconnecting the last few bullshits keeping everything in the van so I roped them in to helping me. Yanked the motor trans and case out in one decently smooth shot. No casualties to report which is surprising.

Got the orion seperated from the 4 speed before finding a spot for all this extra junk. Man I hope someone comes and buys this s*** soon..

Got the old motor mounts removed and the holes welded up then bolted up the th350 to the 5.3 to the orion and threw it all into the 40 for a test fit. Got the transfer case almost exaxtly where it was which is good but the front driveshaft is fighting for room with the 350 pan... I have a pretty big double cardan on that end so thats part of the problem.

Gonna sleep on it...

do you plan to mod the oil pan or finding a smaller driveshaft

It looks like i can shave a little bit of material off of the pan flange and, depending on whats under the pan, cut and paste on it a little. .. The shaft has a huge double cardan on the t case end and thats whats causing the problems for the most part.. If i were to flip the shaft so the cardan is at the diff it would clear since the slip yoke portion of the shaft is narrow. Maybe i dont even need the double cardan since the front shaft is long af..

And i was all excited my shafts wouldnt have to be dicked with.... lol

Gonna read up and see what others have done, maybe post up in hardcore for advice.

The shaft and double cardan in question.

Just looked at my fj 60 front shaft, it has roughly the same amount of lift (soa), no double cardan and the slip is at the case end.... Maybe I can get away with flipping it if i swap the flanges end for end (40 series pattern at case, 60 series at diff. Cant remember but im pretty sure they're a tad different). Gonna double check next time i crawl under it.

Is there a rule or reason why you cant run the cardan at the diff?

Potato pic of the 60 front shaft.

If you’re not going to use the DC joint at the tcase you’d be better off with a driveshaft with two normal joints-depending on the answer to the next question:

How much if an angle difference will there be between your diff/pinion flange and tcase output flange?

Ill let you know when i know...

Not a ton of progress, waiting on headers to finalize engine placement. Hoping they show up today.

Got the engine side motor mounts all welded up and ready to go, drilled and tapped my water pump so I could reroute the ls steam line, and extended my intermediate steerng shaft a bit since i noticed it only had an inch of overlap at the slip joint.

My buddy Rob finished messing with my wiring harness and brought it over last friday so thats basically good to go, just have to figure out where im gonna mount things.

Splurged on a winters rock crawler shifter from tmr in a moment of weakness as well.

Have to get off my ass and order a fan....

Lol love the super troopers dvd just hanging out in the shot. Classic!!!!

Hahaha, thats been there so freaking long man! Good eye.

Headers and random ebay intake came in so I bolted them and the accesories onto the motor to see whats what... Got things positioned pretty good yesterday before calling it quits. Looks like the existing high pressure power steering line will work which is a bonus.

Picked up what I hope is the last piece of the fitment puzzle today, a hayden 1400cfm electric fan. It's 4 1/8ish" deep and fits inside the stock 40 fan shroud for whatever thats worth. Haven't mocked it up in the van yet but im hoping that, with a little more dicking around (I slotted the rad support mount tabs on the x member to move the rad forward a bit and flipped the cross bar tube deal on the rad support which gave me a bit of room), I can move on to the frame side motor mounts.

Critique my drivetrain placement please. Think I have it pretty close but can always use 2nd and 3rd opinions..
