Hey vtcruiser60, I'm not running an electric fan. The temp gauge never went past the halfway mark last summer even with the a/c running. I'm happy with the set up. I'd have to go back and look, but I think that's the same radiator I have.

Can't wait to hear if the noise got resolved. I had the same noise condition. Had a mechanic who works on cruisers try a to diagnose it. He thought it had to do with the front diff. He didn't think it was serious and that it may never be a problem. I hate guessing at what a broblem MIGHT be. I changed the oil in the front diff using Lucas Hi Performance 80W 90. Next time I went 4X the noise was gone. Go figure!!! The diffs are something I haven't touched on mine also. Figured I'd wait until I decide if I will be putting some type of limited slip or locker in either one of them. Running out of things to do before attacking lockers. Still on the fence about neeeeeed?

The noise is about half of what it was. I might have to try a different oil as well. I discovered another twist that may be contributing to the noise. While checking fluid levels in the trans/transfer cases, transfer case was low and transmission was overflowing when I removed the fill plug. So I have a failed oil seal between the two. For a bandaid fix I'm going to install a bypass hose on the fill plugs of both cases. Others have done this, and frankly that's all the time I have right now before the pig party.

Anyone who's considering building a 2fe, I highly recommend reading these threads.
I am by no means taking it as far as he did, but I'm doing my best to learn what I can as I go. And just to confirm my suspicion, I recently did a compression test on the pig. Here were the results:

Thanks for the thread post. It looks familiar and definitely worth a re-read. Once I get to the electrical part, I'll need all the help I can get.
You're telling me. Parts are hard to come by. My buddy is also planning an AFI EFI for his 60. I'll have another 2f to play with after the swap so you never know. I might have to make that the next engine build.

Before taking the whole engine to the machine shop, I first took the 3fe head in to make sure it was usable. Everything checked out, but it would need to be shaved .007-.009. I wanted to play with port polishing and port matching the intake and exhaust, so I had them hold off on doing that. Here's some poor quality pics:

After all that fun, I loaded everything up for the machine shop.
It then sat there for nearly 2 months.
In the mean time, I sent the cam off to be re-ground. Here's how it came back to me:
At least they were very apologetic about it and promptly sent me a whole one, with better packing this time.

After getting everything back from the machine shop, here's what I have:
3fe head with SBC valves and springs, shaved .009
Cylinder block that needed to be overboard and decked. I picked up some 1.5mm oversize pistons a couple of years ago from a Mudd member, so I just went with those. The shop had no notes on how much they had to shave the block, but I figured no big deal, I can measure that later.
Balanced crank, rods, flywheel, and pulley assembly.
I thought I'd learn how to measure the combustion chamber volume. Having a gear head for a friend comes in handy. I borrowed NMfjcruiser's toys and gave it a go.

Cylinder depth measured 101.65mm
Piston deck clearance for the most part was zero.
Area of the head gasket was 12cc.
I came up with a displacement of 4369cc and a compression ratio of 9.27
Anyone feel like checking my math?

I only know the magic number when using inches... but those numbers look dead on to me. I am surprised to see such a high static compression, but it makes sense. The SBC valves- did your guy use the +.100s on the exhaust side and keep the 3FE rocker arms, or did he use same length stems and you will use 2F arms? Also, can you find out what pn he used for springs and retainer hardware? I'm getting ready to take my 3FE head in for the mill work...Thanks!

Thanks for the input. Yeah the static compression number is getting up there. I did read something from Jim C that said below 9.5, I would be ok and still be able to run regular gas. I've been trying to read up and understand dynamic compression. I am running a Delta 262 cam and from using an online calculation, I came up with a DC of 7.65. That has me a little worried because I've read that a DC of 7.3-7.4 is ideal. Thoughts?
I used the shorter SBC valves (4.88) for both exhaust and intake and stayed with the 2f rockers. I'll check the receipt on the springs and retainer hardware. I do know that the shorter exhaust springs were used for both intake and exhaust.
