Back on track with the engine build.
Ironically, I've been spending the last few weekends rebuilding the aisin carb on the :princess:'s 40 and trying to understand the old distributor points setup. I'm sure it's an old hat to most, but for me it took a while to get things set up properly.

Anyway, here she sits as of now:

I spent most of the time on the mechanical side of things, rebuilding the transmission and transfer case.
Big thanks to @mel lowe for helping me with the electrical bits. I ended up buying a complete engine and cowl harness, after realizing that what I had was missing a lot of what was needed. Electrical, that's the next hurdle. I'll post some pics soon with lots of questions for those that can help.

I'm making progress. I installed the transfer case park brake and had a custom cable made. I had to modify the skid plate that sits under the transfer case though.

I'm still entertaining JMack's line lock, if I have time. I have the shutoff valve, but I just can't settle on where to locate it.
The electric fuel pump is installed and wired. I also have the cowl harness spliced in, hopefully correctly.
Also, just got my injectors back from being serviced.

Now, I can start putting everything put back together.

I ran a brake line right from the master through the firewall and put a valve under the dash with the line running right back out. Glad to see you're making some head way.

ditto on scrapdaddy/fj55-100 , that is how my line lock is .

The good news:
After a long and frustrating weekend, I finally got it to run. :) It took me the longest time to realize that I needed to have my foot on the brake pedal in order for the ecu to tell everything to start firing. I'm such a rookie.

The bad news:

I'm having issues with the fuel delivery. The fuel pump is very loud and runs erratically. The engine revs up just fine , but has trouble settling into a smooth idle. On the fuel rail there's a pulsation damper on the supply side and a pressure regulator on the return. I've replaced both with aftermarket parts, OEM is NLA. There's a loud ticking sound, that I think is coming from the pulsation damper as if it's hammering up and down. I can't tell if it's due to what I think is a bad fuel pump, or is either the pressure regulator or pulsation damper bad? Oh, and apparently I don't have a vented gas cap. There was a pretty good vacuum being created when I tried to remove the cap. I've since just left it loose, so air can be drawn in. Installing a fuel pressure gauge is on my to do list.

Also, the oil pan was leaking and the oil pump seems loud to me. I've since removed the pan and oil pump and, on the advice of the machine shop, removed the rod bearing caps to look for abnormal wear. Everything looked good. The guys at the shop checked out the pump and even cut open the oil filter for me to look for any sign of metal bits. Nothing was abnormal to them. So I guess I'm going to go with the same pump. Installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge is also on my to do list.

As always, any insight from the sty would be greatly appreciated.

The FiTech stuff is great ... but spendy. I got my system to work with just an in-line Aeromotive fuel pump, others have had to use a fuel pressure regulator but I didn't. I put it on the frame rail just over the rear tire, you can hear it but not obnoxious. Lots of info here:

Good luck!

BTW: The vented fuel cap will make a huge difference, back pressure will make it cut out ... and it returns a ton of fuel to the tank
