Hello! I am new to the community, and I just bought this 1973 FJ40.

First of all, I can't find the original paint color code. I tried running the VIN on a few websites, and nothing came up. (Vin is FJ401482914). Anyone know where I can find the original paint color?

Also, it NEEDS new brakes. And there are also a lot of small things I'd like to replace. (Hood latches, window lining rubber, dashboard pads, etc.) Where should I get various parts for it? Any good websites to order stuff, that you know of?

Thanks in advance! I've never owned a LandCruiser before, I just don't know where to go for all of this.

You did good! That rig looks nice. Looks close to Capri T-449 to me. *edit* I think Capri is T310

I think racer65 has a good price on upper dash pads, his online store is: City Racer LLC. His cowl drain hoses are nice too. I waited patiently and got a nice used pad ($100) off our classifieds. Someone posted used lower pads recently. Cruiseroutfitters has made in Japan brake related stuff.

Does it run? How does the engine bay look?

Welcome, nice truck. Tell us a little about the 40 and what you plan on doing with it.

Here is the engine bay, it runs and drives great (other than the brakes).

Thanks! Aside from the crappy brakes, it runs and drives fine. I plan on fixing it up a bit and using it for daily driving and light off-roading, but enjoying it mostly in the state it is.

And yeah, I have heard enough how it shouldn't be a daily driver in its current state. I don't care, and we have enough trucks incase it starts having problems. I plan on mostly driving it to and from school everyday (just a few miles).

Cool, have fun with it.

Looks like Horizontal (Horizon) Blue to me. I think they called it Horizontal Blue but that it was supposed to be Horizon Blue; a translation error. Anyway, the paint code for that was 808 (taken from my dealer's window sticker at the time of the sale). My guess is based on the fact that it appears to be same as the original color of my 3/72. I'm guessing yours is a 6/73, so a bit over a year younger. No telling if they were still using Horizontal/Horizon Blue at that point in the timeline but I do know you can't trust the paint code charts. The pic below as taken in 1976 so the paint is not yet as nicely aged as yours.

Nice rig!! Welcome and enjoy the sickness.

bezel is upside down

welcome

as for parts: search the Vendor section here on MUD - CruiserCorps, Man-a-Fre, Specter Offload . . .

or post up what you need in the Classifieds, someone who has the part will answer

all these sections can be found as tabs at the top of this very website

Your rig is definitely T-808 horizontal blue. It's identical to mine.

My understanding is that Capri blue was phased out a few years earlier.

My fender tag did not have any paint codes on it.
