Bingo! You still have the pan with the large drain plug?
If you had a new replacement oil pan it came with a much smaller drain plug. I think it was like 14mm.Not sure what you mean. It has a 19mm hex plug.
There was actually an earlier version that was more like 24/25mm.If you had a new replacement oil pan it came with a much smaller drain plug. I think it was like 14mm.
Ah, no, this is the pan that came with the engine. If you had a new replacement oil pan it came with a much smaller drain plug. I think it was like 14mm.
Using my Endoscope I was able to see the broken bit. It was leaning up against the front baffle and resting behind the oil pump pickup. I highly recommend this 2 camera endoscope https://amzn.to/43GZU6c very easy to us and long enough to inspect an exhaust system. (Side benefit is it doubles as a bore scope on some of my rifles. It's about 7.5mm)
Using a hook I made from 12ga romex I was able to hook it while I watched on camera and get it under the rear baffle.
Once I got it to the drain hole it took a bit of fiddling to find the end and drag it out.
I have a new dipstick on order but I'll create a temporary replacement based on the measurements of the old one.
Thanks!! I am going to make a simple one just to get her filled up and running. I need to run it to temperature to finish the coolant refill.Wow, great recovery Matt. I still can’t believe that happened.
You can borrow my dipstickif you need…
Norman is taking a break for a bit.
Looking at the video I guess I just did endoscopic surgery on my '40. "Paging Dr. Matt!"
All clear on the colonoscopy...
Ran the engine up to temp and burped the remaining air out of the coolant circuit.
Wrapped up the weekend by plugging the throttle cable hole in the fire wall that was blowing hot air into the cabin.
I tightened up the alternator bracket and while I was running the engine I managed to get the squeal on video.
Can anyone tell if this alternator is worth rebuilding or if I should just replace it? It's externally regulated. (And I need to ask @Coolerman if he has a replacement plastic connector.)

Love these for a quick glance and knowing what state your are "charging"That is similar to what I have. Agreed, they are great for monitoring.
That engine has been passed on to @bparker. What "combo" are you referring to? IIRC, it was a F block with a 2F head and flat pistons.Off topic from this engine, but when are you going to pull the head on the other one so we can see what combo it had?!
Great job on the dipstick.
Ahh, I did not. But @bparker can let us know when he gets into it.I thought from the head number, the thinking was as you say, flat top pistons with a domed piston head, making terrible compression ratio. Was just curious if it got looked at to confirm or deny.
