I'm an 80-series owner but I am also a car dealer and I am looking at a possible trade-in and looking for a fair value. I don't have any pics but I can get them...

Here's the info....It is all stock (except for 31" BFG AT's and alloy wheels)

1972 FJ40 with 21047 original miles. Original paint was light blue but has been repainted white. new rear engine seal, fresh tune-up, new exhaust, alignment, front seat covers, new headliner on hardtop, diffs are serviced and good, tranny just serviced, all new fluids, custom front bumper and rear tire swing, reconditioned front hubs, new brakes front and rear, new clutch and flywheel, new tranny and t-case seals, new shocks, 2 new u-joints, new front right fender, painted inside.

I just drove it and it runs darn good...everything works and tranny (manual) shifts great too.

Looking for a good number that is fair for the owner of the FJ and me!

Thanks

Post some pictures of the interior, undercarriage and of course, the body to get a fair estimate.

If you're an auto dealer, I suspect this is a phishing expedition. It's either 500, 2500, or 4500. Your choice.

21,047, 121,047, 221,047, 321,047 "original miles" as compaire d to what, unoriginal miles?

why did it need so much work with only 20,000 miles on it ? a clutch and flywheel should last a little longer .

Yes, I am a car dealer and so was my dad and my grandpa...my profession doesn't mean i am phishing!

I am just looking for a ballpark estimate based on other FJ40 experts opinions. I have no problem giving a value on an 80-series...so being a diligent person, I wanted to ask the pros!!

I will try to get pics asap!

This thing sounds like a real puzzle. We've got a total repaint, new fender, clutch and flywheel in 20k. Are you sure it's not a Land Rover?

w/o pics and seeing what work has been done I'd venture to say that it probably is 121K but, who knows? That being said, i'd say 2500 bux because there are too many variables in this equation.

I agree with what others have said. There's almost no chance your truck has only 21000 original miles on it. The work you describe on it makes that chance even less.

My driveshafts with 10 times that many miles don't need new U-joints.

Damon, are your perchance the GM/Chevy dealer? If so, I owe you one. My friend and I were in Jackson in July? '06 and his waterpump took a s*** on a brand new '06 1/2 ton Chebby(with about 11,000 miles on it) Whatever dealership it was got us in and fixed, under warranty, of course and everyone from the service writer on down....or up, was great.

I agree with other, no way would need all that work with 20,000 miles, with all that work done to it you can add a 2, 3 or 4 to the front of that number or a 0 or two to the end. No car needs that much work at 20,000 miles, especially not an old Toyota. So the value would be on a very used fj40 and who knows that they newer paint job is hiding.

I dont believe the milage agrees with the work done. My price 3,500 tops. 2 cents Mike

A 37 year old truck with 20-something thousand miles most definitely needs a rear main seal. Would you replace a rear main without spending another $250 on new clutch parts? New paint? PFFFFFTTTTT:rolleyes: Have you been in the sun in Wyoming? Everything can be explained by age.....maybe an under-worked/over-zealous mechanic? Read through the list again and tell me if any vehicle that has sat that long with that few miles would not NEED those things serviced/replaced.

My factory clutch lasted 125,000 miles. So I question the mileage. How do you know what the actual mileage is since the odometer is only 6 digits not 7 digits that DOT require now.

I'll grant you some of that, Ed, but new U-Joints? NEW FLYWHEEL? What, was it parked in a swamp? If it needed a new flywheel I'd be concerned about why and what else it needs that you can't see. Like new wristpins and crank bearings. These are red flags for the OP to consider. An overzealous mechanic? It's a stretch.
