Anyone have a clue where I can get a new set of door locks and ignition cylinders for my 89 FJ70? Is there a way to convert the speedometer to US specs?

Thanks for all the help!!

I bought a full set off Parsouq.com for my FZJ75 pickup. You can put your VIN into their website and search under the body section for the lock sets. I am sure there is a way to convert your speedometer to mph but I wouldn't think it's particularly easy. I think some people just use an overlay. I would think if you could just remember three data points you would have 95% of your driving covered: 120 kmh is 75 mph and 80 kmh is 50 mph and 50 kmh is 30 mph.

for speedo post in Wanted section or ask Joe Katana-

UAE dealers for lockset. Find part on toyodiy.com and then shop carmarka, parouq, or amayama etc.

@grayfj62turd , Ignition Cylinder should be #69057-60130
There seems to be a lot of options after that w/r/t matching keys, and it gets really spendy.
(all doors, fuel door, glove compartment, etc)

Of course you could get the KM/MPH Overlay as @WarDamnEagle suggested, from the Canadian BJ70s (IRC), but you do risk breaking a 32 year old needle pulling it off to put down the mph overlay... I would leave it alone since these are starting to get hard to come by in good condition. My needle started bouncing around a few years back and sourced a used one from @joekatana. Also consider, even if you replace the speed overlay, the odometer & trip will still be in kilometers. I would just get a GPS speedo if it is bothering you. They are cheap and reliable. There is just a big downside to messing with a functioning stock one imo.

Is your cylinder and key set for sale? :)

I replaced mine because it would “stick” sometimes in the very cold weather. I had to “jiggle“ it for it to turn. I can sell it to you cheap, but recommend you buying new in the $70 range. Just curious, what issues are you having?

Overlays can be made with magnetic paper (assuming your FJ70 has the metal face) if you have some basic graphic skills. I made a few but don’t have any more. He didn’t even have to remove the needle. If your FJ70 has the plastic, transparent backlit style face, then I would not recommend any kind of overlay.

@svsisu installed one of them. Photos courtesy of svsisu.

I do have one of the magnetic overlays that @FJ73Texas printed. It works perfectly for me. No removal of the needle was necessary, just a small cut in the overlay. My cluster has a "tab" that covers the needle base, separates the odometer and trip odometer, and nearly hides the cut completely. He was kind enough to do a small write up on the installation procedure here:

There are a number of different clusters for the 70 series and as mentioned, you need the older metal cluster face and not the plastic one that lets light through for the magnetic paper overlay to work. There are at least two UK companies that offer overlays that are supposed work with the newer plastic clusters that allow light through. I have no personal experience using those overlays but they look like they would do the job

Land Cruiser. KMH to MPH Conversion Dial for imported vehicle. Part No. C836 – Lockwood International - https://lockwoodinternational.co.uk/product/land-cruiser-mph-dial-part-no-c836/

I'm really happy with the overlay I have. It can be slightly rotated around the needle to dial in the accuracy according to a gps. Mine is accurate from 0 to about 60 mph, above that it is off by a couple mph. I have 35" tires, so I consider that a solid win. I'm sure I could fiddle with it more, to get a better balance across the entire range of speed but it's not worth the effort to me. I'm more concerned about knowing my speed at lower speeds than on roads where the speed limit is 60 and above. A dial speedo on a 35+ year old truck is not a precise instrument in any case. Yes the odometer and trip are still in kms, and I don't care. If I need accurate distance, then I have a gps or a phone.

If you have an older cluster with the metal face ,and are interested in a magnetic overlay, PM me.

It’s just cool to see the words “70 Series” and “speed“ used in the same sentence. 😁

Maybe it's just the diesel 70's but I'm pretty happy with my 1FZ-F. It will cruise at 150kmh and get there pretty fast......not Porsche fast mind you. Of course I would hate to hit a bump at that speed with those rear springs. :p

In most of the old Land Cruisers I’ve owned I would have been concerned that parts would start flying off at 150kph. 😁
