I am rebuilding the front end of my 1995 hzj75 Troopy and the shims that were in the knuckles were completely broken up and useless. I couldn't even see markings on them.
As a result I need to get a hold of a knuckle alignment tool. I know a while back when I was doing this in my fj60 there was one floating around available to borrow/loan.
If anyone has any info on where I might get a hold of one appropriate for the Troopy I'd appreciate it.
Also any info on alternate ways to do this if I can't get a hold of the tool.

You could have borrowed mine but you are a bit far, the return postage would be close to buying one. I have used mine twice now as I am building a second troopy. But I would lend to locals.

I must admit, many jobs I have done on the troopy is purely for understanding and appreciation.

Surely someone close to you?!

Thanks for the offer. Of course you're right shipping would be silly. I am also hoping that someone here in the states can help.

I was born in Hempstead, I feel like I should offer to help. PM me.

As I mentioned this on FB. With a part-time front end, it's very common to use a 0.5mm bottom shim and shim the top to get the proper knuckle bearing preload. That isn't an exact science like the alignment tool BUT it's generally close, particularly combined with the Marlin Crawler or OEM seals that can afford a bit more mis-alignment versus some of the low quality stuff.

I'll just add that it helps to have someone who knows what the right level of preload feels like if you do it that way.

Fwiw, with either method, the FSM calls for a spring tension gauge to be used.

Mark is on FB as well? 🤯🤯🤯

The world is ending and FB will lose 79% of all market value by the end of the year.

{j/k. 😂😂}

I love you too Onur ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

@OGBeno and @cruiseroutfit .... is this the correct tool for a 1995 HZJ75 Troopy? My research seems to say it is but I wanted to verify with experts (and Onur too ;) )

So finally getting around to putting the first knuckle back together. And if you remember I wasn't able to use the SST.

Ended up with a 2 mm shim on top and no shims on the bottom with a fish scale torque at about 10 foot pounds

Great that you got them done. Always nice to have such a messy job behind you. And not to be overly pedantic but since you have Science below your name, those are just lbs that you are reading on that fish scale.
