Looks great, Nick ! I like the way you installed the tail-lights into the carrier.

Keith there is tension on the latch when in the closed position but like you said, i wouldn't trust just that to keep it closed. The latch comes with a hole drilled through the body and the latch that you can put a locking pin of some sort in to make sure it stays closed. I plan on using this pin to make sure it doesn't do what happened to you. I'll probably run a locking pin like this:
McMaster-Carr

It looks like this mcmaster carr latch is a double locking latch but I don't know if it has provisions for a locking pin to be used with it. I like the idea of having a failsafe that I know will work, hence the locking pin.

McMaster-Carr

Hope this helps.

Yeah...that was the one that I used for the 62, only the NON locker (I thought it WAS in my defense). Ill be doing a different configuration this time with the single swing. I want the outer end of it to be supported...sort of like your doing with the bushings, only on the far end and I may just use a pin in lieu of the latch altogether.
BTW, I really like the buckets you are doing for the lights. Pretty slick idea!

I'm slowly putting one together too. Where did you find the latch you used to close the swingouts? Can you give a supplier and part numbers?

There is a link to all the parts in the first post:
"I wanted to have a dual swing out for a tire and cooler / jerry can carrier. I went to a steel yard and bought a stick of 3x2x3/16" tubing and a stick of 2.5x3/16" sq. tubing, and 4"x3/16" flat strap. I bought 2 spindles from A to Z fab as well as two clevis mounts. I called IPOR and ordered a southco compression latch and 2 poly spacers. I also ordered 2 pull pins from McMaster Carr. I already had 2 trucklite STT lights from my previous bumper."

The latch is a southco and ordered from IPOR (Iron Pig Offroad).

Thanks keith. FWIW this latch with a pin will keep my carrier from opening. The lights should be plenty protected w/ the steel. I'm looking for some either 3" round white LED's to put next to the STT lights. Either that or I'm looking at these from superbrightleds:

Got a little more today. Had to redo my latch system a bit to account for a small bushing between the bumper and the holder for the tire SO. I started fabbing up the tire mount. Looks good. Had to borrow a tire from my drivers side since I don't have a spare yet.

Now for my jerry can carrier side. I think I'm going to make it 15x24. Should be big enough to hold 3 jerry cans or a large cooler. I don't have any jerry cans to measure off of, so if I'm missing something on the size, please let me know.

Awesome fab work, I love looking at other peoples handy work. Gives me some good ideas for my rear bumper/tire carrier. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see it all finished.

Few more pics. Got the basket side done today but I didn't get any pics of it all together, so just some in progress pics. After getting the basket mounted, it is pretty big. I wanted to be able to haul a good size cooler w/ a water can also. I may look at get some of those gas cans that mount to the sides of the basket. Rotocan something, but they seems pretty $$$. My spare tire came in today but I am waiting on the rim to get here. Will be nice to have the spare on the carrier, really completes the look.

That can carrier looks HEAVY!

I have no idea what it weighs, but I don't think it will be enough to effect anything. What do the man a fre bumpers weigh? I would assume it is about the same as those.

VERY NICE :grinpimp:
