There was another little trick also. I was struggling a little to get the bell housing lined up with the box. I'm lying there gazing up thinking "geez wouldn't it be great if there were a special tool to help line the holes up." Well I had a couple of long high tensile bolts kicking about, so I cut the heads off and rounded the ends off with the bench grinder. They screw into the holes on the rear of the bellhousing. This made alignment super easy. I used the lower two holes, got the engine slid home, bolted up the top mounts then removed these and bolted up the bottom mounts. One is intentionally longer than the other so one side engages first then the engine can be jiggled and rotated to engage the other.

Great idea. I’m going to make some of those as well.

So it's been a while since I have an update n the project. I'm pleased to report significant progress! Once again the pictures can do the talking.

Now that it's movable again, I got it outside and moved to the main garage for further paint prep.

At this point I made the decision to fast track things. This project is lagging and I just need it back on the road. So that means getting someone else to paint the body for me. On my last break I got everything stripped down and all the doors etc disassembled.

Panels all cleaned up.

Things are gonna happen super fast now. They usually do when one decides to throw some money at a project!

Here are some progress pics from the shop while I'm away at work.

My sunroof delete made permanent with rivets and the seam sealer tidied up.

Ok so are you ready for this? I recommend sunglasses!

I was resolved on doing it an alpine white or one of the Toyota beige colours. Then I thought stuff it, why not go out there a little? "Out there a little" rapidly turned into "way out there"... and here it is. The colour is BMW "Inka" (code 022). It was a factory colour on the 2002 in the late 60's and early 70's.

Ok so here are a few pics taken this afternoon in the sunlight.

The paintwork was done by K Paz Automotive Spraypainting and Panelbeating in Welshpool, Perth. I can't recommend them enough. Karson is excellent - straight up, honest, goes the extra mile and just decent to work with all round. I'm not going to say what it cost me, but I consider it a fair price for the outstanding job that he's done. It's come out way better than I expected.

So I just got back from Mongolia last night. Couldn't resist opening one of the late Christmas presents for the 60 that arrived from Specter Off Road.
