Seems fair to me. It has more in common with a tractor than it does with modern vehicles

Meeeybeee..

The Possum did take the “Ole John Deere” down the street for a road Coke while Tammy was on the road. So, I get the comparison.

But, I’m just say’en @OlYellr may have gotten home cooked in Nebraska. But, WTH, he did score an excellent trophy from the “Corn Growers Bank”…🏆

Quick update - will be more comprehensive later. I was able to drive it this weekend some and wow. Did a Nolan inspired video with the suspension etc, san railroad crossing jump.

Two things: 1) it drives and steers soooo much better. Completely different rig 2) some gremlins that need to be addressed.

Developing a final punch list. Stopped by Russ's late yesterday and we loaded up and drove around and could re-create the noises - in the end it is the exhaust - The PO did exhaust work kind of close(ish) to stock location - anyway - will send a pict.

I was concerned it could be the new springs etc. Been texting to Ian as he is shaking down his rig with same setup and while steering is better, not right. Seems like tire pressure may have a bigger role in talking with Ian last night for his issue. I think mine is good after crawling around in and on it. Was concerned with a loaded rig, was too much for the medium springs. I now think it will be ok after a full complement of people in the back driving around.

Speaking of driving around, it has been years in the making to get to this point to drive. Now I know what people mean by an oven. Man, this thing is a mobile Easy Bake Oven.

I got this heater shutoff valve (stock image from where I got it, not mine) - and I closed it, but the heater still produces heat - maybe it restricted some flow, but not all - temp on the gun almost 160 on inlet pipe to heater. - I wish it was a ball valve on that thing instead. Good idea in theory, my experience is not matching theory.

Rest of trans hump hot AF too. So ordered some floor/tunnel heat shield to put down.

Put oem hub caps on yesterday. Will share my punch list later when better vetted given the limited days left.

That stuff is fantastic. I haven’t placed any on the underside of my 40 yet, but I have 2 kits worth in the tunnel on my 80 (LS swap exhaust in the vicinity) and it made a big difference.

I believe it’s the same product @wngrog has used on 40 tunnels.

Yep. I totally lifted that from Nolan’s @wngrog thread like almost everything else in my thread. Imitation is flattery.

Now off to get some bb’s to put in Jerry can to clean inside and coat that up

I layered down a bunch of rubber matting pieces from a roll I got at northern tool. It's a thin gym mat type stuff. My floor boards are Swiss cheese so a ton of heat, dust etc... was screaming in. Made a giant difference and is easily removable for cleaning or actually repairing the floorboards when I get to that.

this stuff: https://www.northerntool.com/produc...wmDZNBTxQvRulVr7XHqSCy8vsxpVtEDNKg10zKcJt0B80

Also made a bed mat for the back with it.

Thanks. I was thinking of my back mat too at some point

got the bbs and some degreaser for first round of cleaning. Two of these came with the rig when I bought it. There was a bit of fuel in it when I dumped it on the concrete. totally stained it. I don't know what got in there.

IMG_7698.jpg

and using this first - I got the POR fuel coat system - just don't think the cleaner that came with kit will be sufficient to clean. I need to head to the big city Wednesday and may throw the can in the back to bounce around. I was shaking it a lot. will rotate it too during the day as well - will see how this goes then decide on the other can.

This on on the passenger rear - exhaust is coming out - the PO has a bracket right at the edge where the tire is and it is rubbing - it is in the right area for 1979+ but that bracket is exactly in the wrong spot, anywhere else and would be fine. So that is on the punch list

EDIT: why now right? The rig has spacers etc and were pushed out and why not an issues before, eliminating spacers and OEM rims brought things in.

And a shot of the hub caps on.

also on the punch list are the body mounts. Hit all but one area with penetrating oil. Could not find the bolt for the second set of #3 which confuses me. It might be tucked under like #2. Will have more time Wednesday plus need another round of penetrating oil.

Took the grommets off the rear to get access to the rear bolts for body mount. I see a winter project (rust and rear sill)

Here is the punch list (so far) before heading out to to Ouray, CO in 3 weeks - I really have 2 weeks due to work travel....

  • resolve tire rub (All Russ)
  • rear ambulance door - new handle so door can lock, striker, hopefully stops the rattles
  • Thermal protect the transmission hump
  • Install skid plate over transmission
  • lathe for front bumper shackles that don't fit in front bumper
  • Install winch clamp on cable and hook to shackle on bumper
  • connect quick connect cables to winch - make bracket?
  • secure speakers (rivnut) to sides - with floor mat on (hoping the floor mat doesn't push speaker bracket up and interferes with kick vent
  • put kick vent seal on
  • Install body mounts Russ and me
  • reset front fenders so they are straight/aligned
  • install parking brake bracket and switch - don't need to connect the switch at this time (I think some wiring is needed and this could be a winter project)
  • Install Oil sensor boot (and new wire?)
  • Paint and install the radiator splash guard
  • remove loose wire by driver.
  • See about rattle on passenger front seat
  • remove broken bolt in evap cover area.
  • swap out hood safety latch
  • install defrost vents
  • install dash pad and map light. maybe
  • finish cleaning on jerry can
  • drive it around a lot to see if anything else comes up

Not everything is really needed and not in priority order. Priority is, exhaust issues, thermal stuff, lathe shackle pin so it fits on front bumper, secure speakers, and new body mounts. Oh yeah - work on the ambulance door handle so the door will lock - have new one if that is the way forward - ton of slop with old one and lock mechanism is to catching.

The good thing about your punch list is that very few of the items appear to be mission critical to getting to/from and having a great time at SAS. :)

When I still had my 2F, the firewall on the driver's side would get to something like 160 degrees when it was hot out and sitting in lights.

My AC developed a leak the other day, so we'll see how that goes....

Yeah, I’m at 130+ at the pedals and not stopped at a light. Will be worse with header I have my eye on in the future.

The heat shield is a must at this point.

Yeah… not a critical list… documented somewhere so I will remember- still need a packing list (thanks for sharing your @sogncab)

I might have a solution for the header heat issue. An acquaintance of mine does ceramic coatings on exhaust.
He does a lot of work on ultra high end restorations on things like Duesenberg manifolds

I think it's internal so it helps move the heat away.

But I don't know if this is the right application for what he does.

If it is seen on TV, it must work. Surely they wouldn't lie to us, would they? Right? Well then, here is the solution that we've all been waiting for. Notice that the "Marketing Department" insisted on the word "Ultra." Kind of like using the term "Nano Technology." ;)

I like the night light too. I do have an inverter...

Maybe I can just load up a spray bottle of water and give myself a dose every now and then. Could also add some febreeze for the smell and kill two birds..
