Zoom in on the last photo and will see two tiny Cruisers above the building.

There will be better pictures later…

Here is one (not yesterday). Yesterday took a while on the trail. Generally, the vehicle going up has the right of way. We were about 9-10 rigs going down. most of the road not wide enough for 2 vehicles- the guy below was a good spot to hold up so we could come down and pass. He refused and insisted he had the right away. Need common sense too.

About an hour later, he go up to where we were holding up on a wide spot and then talked smack to CruiserTrashParts as he drove by and parked with us, so we could clear the narrow roads for the next narrow stretch above.

He did get out to “apologize” to CTP. Basically and an “apology” in the form of “Sorry you pissed me off, stupid”. We are huge fans of this guy now (200 Series driver too).

All he needed to do is wait 15-20 and we would have been down him and trail clear. But he had the right away and that is all that mattered and took him hours I suspect with all the jeeps and motorcycles piling up. I going to guess 30+ stacked up behind our group.

As I say/do advice, you can be principled, or you can be effective. You can’t be both.

This “advice” in the theme of Papa (raising kids) advice chatter Ian @RevISK and I were having last night with some beverages.

Epic trip my friend that was far too quick.

IMG_2072.jpeg

Hopefully you’ve come down from the high of sniffing my fumes all week. Just be glad I didn’t share your cabin… our friendship might have ended before it really got going.

Great pics.
It was good meeting and riding a trail with you.
That guy was an idiot.
Actually the pleasure was mine Jorge.

It is humbling after all the permutations of possibilities run through you mind when someone says they read and like my thread. For example, I think I gave you my condolences at first on Ophir

Hope you don’t mind, I stole your pic for my wallpaper. Pics are amazing!

Were you pleased with the performance of your rig?
Overall - yes - Yellr got some bumps, bruises, and some broken parts that will need urgent attention. I will post more about it later (I need to leave to New England for work - so shifting gears). I gained so much more appreciation on what the rig can really do (and myself for that matter - totally appreciate @RevISK being trail leader - really it was like dog races where they chase the rabbit - except Ian had beer ).

I will also do a review of my thoughts of the various stuff I got - IE Dobinsons etc and what I would do differently.

Hoping to get some of the travel log started today.

There's always at least one. We had our share when we went for number 5. Can't wait to do that trip again. Not so thrilled about the prospect of driving the 40 all the way up there this time. Flat towing might have to be the answer. Awesome trip and pictures y'all!

Trip log - part 01

Day 0.5 (Friday night) - drove to Lincoln to @Plains Cruiser to drop off fluids etc for him to haul. Spent time troubleshooting his 80's antifreeze leak too and decided better get home to try and sleep.

Day 1: Sat - Loaded up and hit the road about 6:20 - decided I would check my conversion factors with these long travel stretches for my mpg calcs etc. And Ian thought there would be no spreadsheet actions on my travel log...

I should backup - I got a cabin with 3 beds - so @Plains Cruiser and my brother-in-law came along. Erik's Taco was my sag incase something happened along the way.

Erik left later but caught up at first gas station in Alma, NE - we then dove down to KS and eventually to highway 40 to CO. Near the boarder, saw signs that Hwy 40 was closed. Detour sign said head north for 1 hour, over and back down. Frick. Stopped for gas, got the "nice Jeep" - ended up talking a lot with Matt and then he gave us instructions how to drive past the road closed/barricades and said if the sheriffs stop us to tell them Matt said go this way.

After more chatter, Matt got in his truck and lead the way which took us 10-15 minutes vs the 2 hour detour. We were 5 miles from CO by then. Cool art on buildings saying welcome in Matts hometown, took some snaps, and Matt said the highest point in KS was 11 miles away - so we saw that, then headed to our destination for the night, Alamosa, CO - I knew it would be a long day, and thought best to call it vs catching up with the TX convoy camping in Creed area. Got to hotel about 8 pm & went out for beer and food.

Along the way from Walsenburg CO on, people were waving or wanting me to honk. Was fun being in a relic that people recognize.

@Plains Cruiser taking real pictures vs my phone.

The duo at the Mt Sunflower..

Took a picture at the CO border, cranked hard left to get situated (this was a previous post and picture) - the bolt on drag link clamp was sticking out just enough to rub tire on hard left. Added that to the "to-do" list when stopped.

Yellr Stats from the spreadsheet...Gas Stops and MPG....
  • Alma, NE/16.3 mpg
  • Sharon Springs, KS/13.3
  • La Junta, CO/13.7
  • Alamosa, CO/15.7

Total miles on Saturday = 746.2 miles.

It was hot in the rig. Knew it would be. Totally worth it.
