Can't wait to see how the swap turns out. That was my first choice for swaps, but the more I read about complaints about noise and vibration I started to shy away. And the vortec was supposed to be cheaper. That ended up to not be so true.

So if the noise isn't so bad I'm gonna cry a lot :'(

Well think about it this way, you could always sell the blue truck and build another You could probably make enough off of japeth to afford another 60 with a blown motor and then build a sweet 4BT drivetrain for it.

This week has been real hectic with arranging for this weekend's motor swap. See the following thread:

I finally found the belt that fits with my pulley setup, so let's get that documented:

The Dana 300 uses a M20x1.5 nut for the output shafts, so I got that ordered. The CV yolk seems to use a M8x1.5 bolt for the driveshaft, so I'm working on tracking those down.

EDIT: 1310 CV Driveshafts use a 5/16 fine thread bolt.

Started the wiring for my voltage regulator, figured out starter and shutdown solenoid wiring ( thanks Stevo and Mike! ) and have developed quite a shopping list for Friday.

Glad it's been helpful. Unfortunately the pics are finally down and the slow process of re-linking each one will need to become a habit of mine until it's done. I've got some updates to get to but will have to wait until the pics are back up.

Hey Johnny, let me know when you are ready to part with the H55. I will be going down to Gainesville next weekend to pick up another 60 body and frame. Guy said that it is pretty much rust free expect for the roof. Will be cutting the roof off of mine and putting it on the new body. Then I will be ready to start swaping in the axles, 4BD1T, and trans. along with the SOA conversion.

Absolutely, yes. I'm welding the bracket on the axle this weekend and intend to build the bar before wheeling (or doing burnouts) at all.

Got the rear axle swapped and the dei efrain pulled by 5:00pm, right as the rain started. Too drunk and tired to post pics last night.

I would like to thank each and every ONSC member who came out to help. We ate, we drank, we turned wrenches and had a great time! Here is a list of what was completed:

- Removal of Toyota drivetrain
- Removal of all factory drivetrain brackets
- Swap rear axle to FZJ80 rear
- Design, fabricate and install Cummins motor mounts
- Design, fabricate and install transmission crossmember
- Installation of Cummins drivetrain
- Wiring of motor
- Plumbing of fuel and cooling systems
- Hydroboost conversion
- Clutch system conversion
- Clearance body for rear driveline
- *modification* of firewall and PS footwell for exhaust
- strip 2F
- 1.5 hours of attempted starting

As a couple of you already know, the motor did not start. We are experiencing a fuel pressure issue. I have ordered a new lift pump, which will be here later today. If that does not help, then we will move to the injectors.

Fast forward to Saturday evening, after the transmission crossmember and motor mounts were designed, fabricated and now ready to install the motor:

We got it running on starter fluid only, but that's it. Pretty depressing after so much work, but we'll figure it out and get her going.

It might sound simple in words, remove an engine, put another one in and swap an axle but that is a ton to do in a short weekend. Great progress! Some following thoughts, most of which you probably did:

On the no start did you pull the fuel cut off solenoid, pull the plunger and spring, reinstall with the o-ring and try firing it up? This can rule out a bad solenoid or bad wiring.

Did you install your fuel filter full of diesel?

Did you prime a gazillion times with that little lever on the diaphragm pump? Could also test pump by pulling the outlet line and priming into a container to make sure it's pulling from the tank alright.

Did you crack injectors lines (nut on top of injector) first while turning over to get the squirts going from the IP? Once you've got a good squirt on one, tighten it and move to the next. Keep a towel over them to keep the diesel from making too much of a mess.


Interested to see what you find. I too have replaced my fuel pump.


Can I assume that you are planning on wrapping your down pipe with it being close to the firewall? And are you going to gusset the tranny crossmember at the mounts any?

Remember, I had the same problems with trying to start my 4bt too. Check all connections to make sure they are tight. I removed the hose coming from the tank where it attached to the lift pump and sucked the fuel up from the tank. Got my thumb over it and quickly attached it to the lift pump. You're still going to get air into the system. Now, You have to crack the bleeder valve that is after the lift pump. Mine is right above the fuel filters where the return line from the injectors dumps back into the system. Once that bleeder valve is open, pump the manual primer on the lift pump until you get diesel out of the bleeder valve (It took me 26 pumps). Close the bleeder valve. Open the bleeder valve on the injection pump. On my pump, it is also the pressure valve. Pump the hand primer again until you get diesel out of the bleeder valve. Close the valve. Crank the engine. Make sure the solonoid is pulling and holding. If you have to crank the engine several times, it might be a good idea to unhook the pull once you have the hold and just leave the hold on. Otherwise you can get that solonoid pretty warm. Once the engine catches, start bleeding the injector lines.

1. No, we did not do that. We can hear the solenoid click up when power is applied and based on the fact that fuel squirts out of the injection lines, I do not believe that the solenoid is the problem.

2. Yes sir, spilling over full.

3. No. We primed with the arm a bunch of times, then cracked the bleeder screw and primed until fuel was pouring out. Should we have primed more?

4. Yes sir. We cracked each injector line maybe 10 or 15 times.

5a. Yes, downpipe wrap will happen.
5b No, was not planning on gusseting the transmission crossmember at this point.
