Looking good Johnny! How does the compressor housing on the HX30w compare to the stock H1C? It looks a little on the small side from your pics.

Thanks Dave!

Good question. I'll take some side by side comparison pics later this week.

Info I know:
- HX30w has a 6cm turbine housing
- On a 4BT, the HX30w puts about 30psi max boost with very quick spooling

You think? Lol

I can't wait to hear it! It's going to start whistling when you crank the starter.

I only hope so! I LOVE the sound of a spooling turbo :steer:

Here are some comparison pics between a new HX30w and the H1C that came on my 4BT. It's an optical illusion, but the intake on the compressor housing is the same diameter on both turbos. The H1C has a larger diameter compressor housing, but it is thinner overall. The turbine housing is obviously significantly smaller on the H1C, 6cm compared to ~21cm. Also, the HX30w is longer overall, but this is partly due to the waste gate housing. Looking at the last pic, I'm thinking I may need that cobra head after all, but we shall see. I need to order new exhaust manifold bolts to bolt it up for good and then do a test fit.

holy crap johnny...
I havent been here in a while and now I see a turbo diesel!

very ironic too. I am also currently working on a 6.2 chevy turbo diesel with a nv4500 in a fj40.. frickin wierd!
Grand idea my friend! looks awesome too.

Very cool. I'm still running the H1C, but with a smaller turbine housing. I'm happy with it so far, but will keep an eye out for an HX35 just in case :)

That's a pretty big turbo for a 4BT unless you have the fuel turned waaaaaaaaay up. I've read that there's a lot of lag with that unit and the HY35. For offroading ( mostly low RPM ) I wanted something that spooled super quick, which is why I went with the HX30w. With the HX/HY35, I don't think you'd see much boost, if any, out on the trail.

Not that one needs lots of boost when wheeling, but the skinny pedal is fun to use on occasion :hillbilly:

Hey Johnny, while your engine is on the stand, could you get center to center measurements on the holes for the motor mounts on the front. I'm sure you know this, for the two holes that are verticle, measure from the bottom of the hole to the bottom of the hole. That will give you an exact center to center. Then give me a center to center for the top to the side and one for the bottom to the side hole. Please. And, thank you.

Hey man, I'll do you one better. Take a look at these images:

PM me your email address and I'll send higher resolution versions.

Very nice. You move faster than I do when it comes to these projects!

Clint

Thanks Clint! At times I feel like I'm moving slower than molasses.

At this point, I'm aiming to take the new and improved Moonshine on her first trip the week before Christmas:steer:

Wow. Looking good buddy. Let me know if I can help during the week.

You ready to sell that H55? There is a guy here in TN that has a few for sale but is over in the Middle East. Let me know and I can take it off your hands. THANKS,,,,Ryan

I won't be ready to sell the H55 until the 4BT and NV4500HD are installed. That's not going to happen until mid December.

You'll be the first person I contact when I'm ready to sell.

Looks heavy....and big!

Yes sir! This transmission is pretty hefty! I'm looking forward to the low gearing and deep overdrive :steer:

Looking good Johnny. I look forward to reading and seeing what you are doing to your ride. Keep up the good work and can't wait till the next post to see whats new.

Got some work done today. Martin ( 1974FJ ) came over to help me with some of the stuff that requires two people.

Rear main:

Exhaust manifold and HX30w. The wastegate just barely touches the block, but I don't think it's going to affect its operation.

Then installed the front bearing retainer / 29 spline input gear setup in my D300 and installed it on the NV4500:

Johnny - What's going to be longer, your front drive shaft or your rear?

That set-up looks bomb-proof. You're getting a lot closer now.
