Man, I'd love to go, but I'm not sure I'll have everything ready in time. I need to make my motor run right, get my new front axle built and installed, put AC and a new radiator in and then re-do the rear suspension. Quite a long list :D

That is a long list... Get her running right and come on... Who needs A/C :D... I got some stuff to get done before then too, but not quite that much... We will be back there in the fall too...:hhmm:

We'll see how it goes my friend. Making the trek out to Moab will chew up quite a bit of my time :D

Are you still having issues with that manifold leak?

Ahh... I forgot about u going to Moab, that is a long trip.... But well worth it...

Yup. I bought that Jetta as a workaround for my inability to fix the manifold leak:rolleyes:

I'm going to give it one more shot, but I'm actively shopping for a 4BT or a 4BD1T, so if you know of one, let me konw.

Yes sir, I'm excited. Not taking Moonshine this year, but I'll be there,.

You want to try my manifold? I don't need it anymore.

Also there is a guy up by me on craigslist selling 4BT pullouts for around $1500.

I'm going to have one of my other intakes surfaced with the headers to see if it'll make a difference. I need to find a machine shop around here to do it.

I would jump on a 4BT for $1500 all day long. The only problem is I can't find any down near Raleigh and NJ is a hell of a drive for me. You coming down this way anytime soon? I'll buy you a beer, or 30, if you bring a 4BT down to me:D

Want me to weld your manifold on? That should do it, and buy you some time to find a worthy engine. Gotta get you back on the trail. :DSo I can show you up some more:D

 Get real man, once Moonshine is finished, I will crush you on the trail :D

:bounce:Bring it :bounce: cause I aint seein it :hillbilly: By the time she's finished I'll be soa on 39s with a diesel.

Leaving for Moab tomorrow, but not with Moonshine. Riding with Burt88 in his bus, so it should be a good time:D

In other news, got my center console finished up in Moonshine and got some new wheels for a set of road tires, that I have yet to find.

I have a NPR truck here in Portland that just came up for sale. 138k on a 4BD1T. They are asking 2200 for the whole truck!

Let me know if you want me to check it out. I hate to let this one go but I just spent all my money on a 80.

Clint

That's a great deal Clint, I too wish I had the extra cash to pick that thing up. I don't have anything to put it in but I'd find something for that. :hhmm: You should use it as your commuter until you put it in the 80.

Thanks Clint, but I'm not ready for the diesel swap just yet. This year's Moab trip has changed my perspective a bit:D

I was able to go to Moab this year, but unfortunately, was unable to take Moonshine. Instead, I rode with my buddy Mike. You can check out pics of that trip here:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/nc-olde-north-state-cruisers/545968-moab-2012-a-3.html

The trip out to Moab has changed my plans for this truck, not in what I intend to do, but in what order each thing will be done. The Toybox is going to be done before the diesel swap and I need to figure out a way to improve my approach angle very quickly.

When it comes to the machines we drive, traction and control are key, not only in Moab, but everywhere. I believe I have traction, but I need more control. A Toybox will give that to me, which is why it moved up on my priorities list.

One small step in the right direction, I took the afternoon today and swapped out my rear springs. The springs I had on before were 2" lift springs that never settled, nor did they soften, in the three years that I had them installed. I picked up a set of 62 stock rear springs that were in AWESOME shape, complete with the factory plastic sliders between each leaf.

After the install, I found an immediate difference, not only in the slightly decreased height of the truck, but also in the softness of the springs. While it was apart, I also moved the axle back to the front hole on the perch ( Ruffstuff adjustable perches ), which moved my axle towards the rear of the truck by 1". While the driveshaft slip splines are now showing, we cycled the suspension and it didn't separate. I'll get the rear drive shafts lengthened to match.

The truck is now more flexible, so I'm happy :D

Pulled her in

Unlimited droop now!

While disassembling the old springs, the threads on one spring pins stripped, so we replaced the pins with 3" long, 3/8-24 socket cap screws. Should work just fine.

Reassembled. You can see the pin is now in the forward hole instead of the center

The rear is most definitely lower now than it was before and the ride is soooooo much better.

After packing up and going home, I found these sitting on my doorstep. Does anyone care to guess what they are / what they're for?
