Picked up the first of 2 60's that will become my new trail rig/DD. Got some work to do but should be able to make a nice truck out of the 2...

This one is an 85, ome springs, aftermarket tbi (haven't investigated it much yet), body is good, bottom of the quarters seem to have some filler in them, but that will be cut away for more clearance. The bad, The motor is locked up...

The 2nd 60 is mostly stock, has a good 2f, trans, tcase, and overdrive. Not sure what all i will use off this truck but had to take both in the deal.
Not sure about how i could put the overdrive to good use in a trail rig. If anybody has some good suggestions or an idea of what it is worth or might want it, let me know.

Cool stuff.

Sounds like you're covered, but LMK if you need 60 parts. I've got some.

I might be interested in the OD if it is for 38mm t-case. I've got one for 34mm case, but I hate to swap out my 38mm 87 case and go back down to a '82 34mm case.

Am I missing something!! How does a 60 have an OD?? Is the tranny a h55 5 speed??

That would be a question for jim.. The only way i knew they were out there was i heard jim talking about them before...

Jim, what year 60 would the OD your looking for be out of ? I'm not even sure what year the second truck is yet:p. I'll let you know when i get it home.

I might be interested in the motor donor truck after you pulled the motor you need....if it's cheap. And for some reason your picture is a red X here. I'm probably the only one though.

Yes, I assume we are talking about the T-case mounted Fairey Overdrive unit.

The t-case was upgraded from 34 to the 38mm idler shaft in 4/86, so only a late 86 or 87 would have the 38mm shaft. The F.O.D. mounts on the back of the case, so the idler shaft goes into the FOD and is visible w/ the case installed. They seem to be most common on 81-83 models. Maybe Fairey was on the way out by then? Or the ready availability of H55 starting in '84 made the FOD unnecessary?

Lemme know what the idler shaft diameter is, once you have your "prize" at your shop.

Figured this boat anchor will not do me any good anymore so it's out and soon to be scrap...

The 2 buckets are what came out of the motor when i let the drain plug go... minus the jersey glove that fell in...lol

Still have not got the 2nd truck home yet but should get it here next week. I think i am going to have to get it running since my DD driver is about to lose the tranny in it... I also, as of this afternoon will not be needing the motor out of the 2nd 60 since i have got my hands on a BBC:eek: and 700r4 to slide into the white 60... Just figured if i was this far might as well go for it... And the price was really right...:bounce:

I did find out that the 2nd 60 is an 81, so the O/D is the same as the one you (jim) have...

Will keep everybody updated when i figure out what i am going to get rid of...

A BBC in a Cruiser? Do you think that will be enough? It may need a 150 shot of nitrous for the deep mudholes. ;p

Chris, I can use the carb(s) and ignition(s) and sidecover(s) off those 81-87 2F engines.
I could also use a cyl head off a 81-87 2F, after my recent headapalooza.
Maybe I just need to come down and go shopping in your junkpile.
Email me if you wanna get rid of any of that.

I now own 3 FJ60 shortblocks and ZERO heads.

Edit: The pictured Fj60 has the semi-valuable H55 transmission starter kit: Angled X-member, long t-case shifter, driveshafts, bellhousing, clutch fork etc.
That stuff all together can be worth afew dollars to somebody doing an H55 swap into an earlier FJ60 or any FJ62.

thanks for the info. I didn't really know if any of the stuff was worth anything or not.

I will get the side cover off the junk motor and i did keep the shift fork, tranny, Tcase, and all that stuff...

As for the BBC, just couldn't pass it up. Nothing special, stock 366 with Weiand intake and car/pu style water pump, so it looks like any other BBC. It only has 58k on it and it was in a bus owned by the local boy scouts. My brother-in-law had the motor and the troop master is a friend of his. Got it for 250$. Now just need to find an auto tranny and an adapter to my split case.

I'll keep you posted and maybe in a couple weeks you can come check out what i got if you like. The nice weather has got me a little more motivated.

A 366 is an indestructible gutless boat anchor. Kinda like a 2F, but 50 lbs lighter. :)

The low compression, 4 bolt mains, forged innards all make it a perfect candidate for twin turbochargers.

and nitrous.

You know that sounds like it would be fun...:hhmm:

Can't be anything much more gutless than a 2f in a wagon.

You ever driven a Chevy p/u with a fresh 366 in it? Might not run a quarter in 10 seconds, but no where near gutless in my opinion.:D

If i had the pockets for you (jim) to build me a 2f i'd stick with one. But you know me, I'm the definition of low budget. :p

No, but I have wrenched on and driven several P30s w/ a healthy 366 w/ a fresh Holley 4V and a good tuneup. Just frustratingly slow. I blame the low compression pistons and industrial camshafts. Everything I could do on the outside was done, from cold ram air intake to headers & 3" exhaust.

The allison 4speed slushbox and eaton rear axle didn't help any.

Remember, no matter how small the cam is, nitrous will still WAKE UP an engine! :D

I'd be interested in a waterpump!
I have an '87 60, I would consider a FOD also. but dont know if it will fit up or not.
Also, does either have factory locking hubs?

Well got the second truck home last friday. Got it running, and it the motor seems to run good, no out of place noises.:)
This 60 is in pretty ruff shape, a fair amout of rust, but the frame looks decent.
I will keeping most of the drivetrain stuff around for now. Plans are to SOA and re-gear and be able to just swap them out on the good 60 when time and $$ allow.:hhmm:

Hodgie, I have an extra front fender that is better than that one.

Prolly have a lower valence that is straighter, too. And a headlight door. and a corner lamp. and...

If i had something to drive that i thought would make it up to
see ya i would be on my way.:steer:

Think i am going to put the 2f in the white 60 and just drive it for now.The most reliable means of transportation i have right now is called a Huffy, and my fat a#* has to look good riding it.
