Sorry,

Gave Johnny my good body, now am going to use the one i got from Florida with the roof rusted completely off to rebuild my cruiser .

She is looking friggin great, you deserve it after fixing up and sticking with a rusty truck for so long.
Kudo's to you and your help, great job!

Thanks Baxter! As you know, it's a labor of love:D

"Only in a Landcruiser.....can one fit another landcruiser inside"

Let me know if Eric is going to want that one piece when you get a chance.

Thanks

Nope, he's going to use plywood. Just asked him.

Hey Johnny... what did you do with the old roof?

Mark

Yup, Darin is going to use it to graft onto another body that he's got down there at his shop. That body will live on in more than one truck:hillbilly:

Had a great day with Moonshine yesterday. Picked up a bunch of parts from Fred Anderson Toyota here in NC, then got a bunch of little things done.

Installed some new weatherstrip:

Replaced the crappy K&N filter with a new OEM unit. Look how much smaller the K&N is!

Permanently fixed my broken motor mount with the following process:
1. Take motor mount half, throw in press, press out the stud on one side
IMG_20120107_152827.jpg

2. Drill out the remaining rubber on the other half and press out the other stud:
IMG_20120107_153302.jpg

3. Open up in plates to 1/2"
4. Insert 4" long, 1/2" thick grade 8 bolt to test ( fine thread with washers and nylock nut )
IMG_20120107_153722.jpg

5. Install in truck

Two notes about install:
1. 1/2" is the absolute largest bolt you can use without modifying the cast motor mount. I had to tap the bolt down through the mount for the shoulder.
2. Nut gets tightened down so the motor mount begins to squish out, not much more. Tighter = more vibes

Wired up my aux fuse block ( no pics ).
Installed new hood bumpers ( no pics ).
Installed fuel sending unit cover ( no pics ).

Body hole grommets are NLA from Toyota. Gotta figure out where I can get some new grommets :hhmm: Anyone have ideas?

Should get some more done later today after work, maybe even tunes:smokin:

Sweet... I'm jealous. My 60 is in serious need of a few days attention. I have a couple of boxes of stuff waiting... The truck look great J. Cant wait to see it in person!

Thanks Mark! She looks much better than when I won the "Ugliest Wheeler" award at CMCC '10:grinpimp:

Are you going to Moab or is that just a rumor that Jon started?

Unlikely I will be able to take 2 weeks away from home. Considering flying out and riding along but I suspect that would be a little frustrating.

Wow,good for you Johnny.Looks great.Good bunch of guys you found down there.

David

Yes sir, the ONSC guys are awesome:D You're more than welcome to come down and visit!

Maybe, but if you do that then I'm sure someone would let you drive, at least for a bit.

If we're all going to get a house for the week then I'd be hard pressed to miss the event, even if I had to fly.

Are you going this year?

Can't see too well...is that the exterior rubber that doesn't require chrome trim? If so, can I have the part number please?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Correct. Outer weatherstripping does not require the chrome strip. In fact, none of the chrome on the door is necessary, aside from the handle of course. P/Ns for new outer weatherstrip for all 4 doors are:

68180-90a01 (outside rear)
68230-90a01 (outside rear)
68160-90a02 (outside front)
68210-90a02 (outside front)

Nice fixings Johnny.

I might have overlooked this but I just noticed your paint is not a smooth finish. What kind of paint is on your body?

Thank you sir:D One of the next projects is going to be chasing down all of the oil leaks, hence the oil pan and side cover gasket. That will be fun, I'm sure:rolleyes:

The paint is actually not paint, but a tinted bedliner product called Raptor Liner. Not as rough as Line-X, but as you can see, it definitely has more texture than paint. Not only was it a piece of cake to spray, but it will be way more resilient to scrapes on the trail. Yesterday I accidentally hit one of the doors with a breaker bar and it didn't take any paint off, just a small scuff. Wasn't a tap either!

Raptor Liner comes in two flavors, tintable and black. I used about a quart, maybe a bit more, of 033 to tint two gallons of Raptor Liner. Here's a pic of the product:

Thank you, Sir! I removed the chrome strip on the driver's door and haven't gotten the weatherstrip to stay in place correctly since. I'll see about ordering up some of the ones you posted.

No problem! I'm sure that those part numbers will work out well for you.

Got some more work done on Moonshine today. Decided that I wanted to get the stereo wired up, after getting the CB and e-locker harness wired up yesterday. Went out to the truck and took a look at the speakers I had and decided that it would be pointless to wire in the stereo with the s*** speakers that were in there. Went down to the local wal-mart and found these for $50.
IMG_20120108_162333.jpg

Took out the PS speaker to compare. 5 1/4" speakers are what were in there, Eclipse 8252s. Replaced with the 6.5" Xplods.
IMG_20120108_162434.jpg

Mounted it in the door panel with the same grill ring that was there before.
IMG_20120108_164059.jpg

Built a couple of harnesses, this is the DS. My stereo is in the glovebox so the DS harness is quite a bit longer than the PS harness.
IMG_20120108_182322.jpg

Took out the DS speaker. No wonder it didn't work!
IMG_20120108_184327.jpg

Much better
IMG_20120108_184349.jpg

Old grill makes it look like nothing important or expensive is there
IMG_20120108_191442.jpg

Look closely and there it is
IMG_20120108_191451.jpg

Built the stereo harness. Only used the switched + wire from the factory harness, everything else is custom. The small mess on the right is the end of 3 different power harness all terminating on the aux fuse block that is right behind the grab bar mount. The lower grab bar mount stud serves as the ground for everything.
IMG_20120108_200813.jpg

Tucked away
IMG_20120108_200726.jpg

Passers by will never know it was there. It's not an expensive deck by any means, but less excuses for someone to break in, the better.
IMG_20120108_212402.jpg

Also installed the badges. She's feeling more and more like a complete truck:bounce:

Yes, I have two "save the tatas" magnets. Tatas are a very, very important feature in a woman:D
IMG_20120108_203000.jpg

Next up, WagonGear tailgate lid, seam sealer, rear shocks and more stuff to make Moonshine ready for the 2012 Moab excursion:bounce::bounce2:

damn man... you HAVE to be tired by now.

Dead tired. Fell asleep on the couch last night while watching this week's NFL highlights.

It was completely worth it when I drove to work this morning with tunes:cool: The 6.5" speakers make a HUGE difference.

Great progress! Your truck looks amazing.....Is there anyone that wants to help me get a new rust free body for my 60? My body is so rusted, that is not even worth fixing. I have a new frame now.

Zack

Good to hear the speakers work well, i used the same speakers in my 60 but behind the stock grills.
Glove box is a good hide for the tuner did the same in my PU but could not mount it in so deep.
You can still use your glove box, perfect.
