Hi all,
I’m wondering if anyone here has experience flashing a steering wheel angle sensor to clear a C1433 fault code?
My RAV4 is currently stuck with this code. I’ve already tried clearing it and performing zero-point calibration, but the code keeps coming back. Interestingly, there’s no warning light at startup, but it appears as soon as the steering wheel is moved. If I move the vehicle back and forth without touching the steering, the light stays off.
At this point, I suspect the C1433 code is stored in the EEPROM. I’m considering dumping the EEPROM data, clearing the fault, and reflashing it. I’ve seen videos of people using tools like iProg, Carprog, OBDStar, and others — but most of them are quite expensive. From what I understand, many of these tools don’t even support in-circuit programming via SAS pinout; they require the EEPROM (24C02) to be removed, reprogrammed, and soldered back.
Given that, I’m thinking of using an EEPROM adapter cable (SOIC8/SOP8 test clip) with an FTDI programmer to dump and reflash the EEPROM. Has anyone here done this before and could share what software you used or any tips for the process?
Thanks in advance!
