Lookin' :grinpimp: Johnny. I'm looking forward to seeing this in person in Moab. What is the "more stuff" planned/needed for the collective journey of epic proportions?

Great progress! Your truck looks amazing.....Is there anyone that wants to help me get a new rust free body for my 60? My body is so rusted, that is not even worth fixing. I have a new frame now.
Zack

Thanks Zach! Rust free bodies are pretty easy to come by down south.

Good to hear the speakers work well, i used the same speakers in my 60 but behind the stock grills.
Glove box is a good hide for the tuner did the same in my PU but could not mount it in so deep.
You can still use your glove box, perfect.

Unfortunately I can't take credit for the glove box stereo. The PO did it but I must say, it's a pretty nice location. The only inconvenience is that I can't use my remote with the glove box closed. I've got a fix for that though, just need to buy the gear.

Thanks Chris! I'm pumped for the Moab expedition as well. The list, as I see it today:

EDIT - as I think about it, more things get added.

  • Diagnose and fix intermittent idle issues
  • AC + Radiator
  • Exhaust
  • Rear shocks
  • Remove a leaf from the rear springs ( possibly 63" chevys if removing a leaf doesn't fix my height problem )
  • Skidplate and sliders
  • 12v fridge
  • Redesign the front section of my sleeping platform for the fridge
  • 6" foam mattress
  • Tent buddy heater
  • Modify the seat brackets to get more rake out of the front seats
  • If I'm doing really good on time then a mount for my netbook and a 110v inverter
  • If funds allow it, longfields and a stretched front axle

that raptor liner looks pretty good, how is it to clean?
i'm using the same speakers in my doors, just a few years older model. work great, but i keep messing up the shields... i'm on my last set, so i'll have to make some kind of bumper around it.

The raptor liner is a bitch to keep clean since it's white. Any little smudge will stick out like a sore thumb. That said, a couple of wipes with a damp rag and it's gone. Since the swap I've pretty much just been tooling around on the street, so I'll let you know how easy / difficult it is to clean once she gets real dirty.

If you were down this way i might be able to pint you in the right direction.

Moonshine needs a new radiator. As a result of the ds motor mount coming apart twice since I've had it, the fan and shroud are in terrible shape. In researching for a new radiator, I've realized that my unit is not stock, so I am considering going with another aftermarket unit instead of having mine re-cored. I'm looking for advice.

How do people like the Champion aluminum radiators? This link looks like I can get a radiator and shroud + fans for not too much $.

What about CSF?

Any insight / experience would be appreciated. A new radiator will accompany my AC (re)install.

Got a couple more things done on Moonshine today. The rear body mount covers completely rotted out on the old body and they are NLA from Toyota. Instead of trying to find someone to buy them from, I decided to make them out of something that wouldn't rot out again. I went down to my local Target and found myself a nice cheap cutting board, about 3/16" thick. I made a cardboard template, then traced it onto the cutting board. A couple of swift cuts with an angle grinder and a bit of foam tape, I had these:

Threw them in with some stainless screws and sealed it in with seam sealer.

I then decided that it was time to reinstall my WagonGear tailgate lid.

I realized that you can cut the main panel out without cutting through the supports, as long as you pop the spot welds on each end of each support. Once the whole thing is lookse, you can then clip the protruding ends of all three supports from one side with tin snips and then take the whole thing out. Doing this gets rid of the support pieces inside of the tailgate, giving you more room for stuff.

After a little bit of cleaning up, I've got a nice big hole in my tailgate. You can see the waves in the sheet metal which were straightened out by the addition of the tailgate lid.

Installed.

Also put in the weatherstrip along the top edge of the tailgate, which creates a better seal with the upper hatch. Much less rattle coming from the hatch / tailgate now.

I have a CSF in my 60... perfect OEM fit. Otherwise I am clueless.

Got any pictures? Happy with the quality? How long have you had it?

Did the factory put weather strip right there? Mine doesn't have any, and all the years I've been with my 60 I don't ever remember having that haha

Nope, another WagonGear invention:cool:

I've had this piece for 3 years but haven't been able to put it in because the latch on my old tailgate was frozen so I couldn't adjust it at all:lol:

I just put a CSF in my truck too. Seems to be working great.
Once I burped all of the air out I run at a steady 190* even while wheeling.

Good to know. Is there any advantage of running an aluminum radiator?

Johnny, have had good luck with the CSF's i have run over the years, heck my 60 that you got the body from had one in it for years.

Feel like taking a close up of that seal? I have an annoying clunk coming from the hatch/tailgate interface... and that looks like it would be a good fix.

Thanks

D

I'm glad you cleared that up, I knew you got yours right before I got mine and it's been in BT for at least two years. Doc:) Wonderful things Kevin comes up with.
