Further down the rabbit hole...

How hard was the dash to take completely off? I've heard six screws and pow, it comes right off.

The dash wasn't bad at all, the radio was never there so that made things easier. Like you said, 7 or so nuts/bolts and lift up a little on the front then pull back toward you. It has a line of 2 clips along the back that fit onto the dash frame.

Now I understand why you jumped back in. I feel if I did another 60 it would be much easier the next time. I have the sickness also, of cruising around looking for another. The pain from the first 60 resurrection has gone away and I think I'm ready for another:confused:.
What really made me jump back in was kind of a timing fluke between being at Turf n Surf and finding this 62. Being down there around a bunch of cruisers from almost every US model, in various forms from stock to modded out....it was the opposite of an intervention that's for sure. The 60 is pretty well set, all the major stuff has been gone through and has a few thousand trouble free miles on it. Drive it every day. The headliner has a tear in the back, that is going to wait until the next paint job so, a year or two.
So here we are, all that's left in the dash is the heater control, steering shaft, and wiring...I'm surrounded by parts, some soaking overnight to loosen funk, some ready for Meguires, some still in the dirty in pile, the ultrasonic cleaner is buzzing away...Life is Good.

I have my eye on a 40 and a 60 that are sitting peacefully in front of two different houses. Just waiting for the wife to give me the ok to knock on a door:).

What model/brand cleaner do you have?

These intrigue me and sound like a nice way to clean up small parts. If I can also clean the wife's jewelry I can probably justify the purchase... It would be funny to give it to her as a x-mas present, but that would probably end up with me in the dog house.

Seems like a perfect gift to keep the jewelry looking good! I think this was a cheapie ebay model but it gets hot and works great.

The last 'Admonition' sentence cracks me up...

Maquires to that boot cover? Mine needs a good dose of that. You added it to a screen shot above right?
I didn't take a before picture of that boot but you can kind of see it here. I clean with a weak mix of denatured alcohol, dawn dishsoap, and hot water...dry...then bring it all back with the Meguires.

^^^^^Thanks for the info.

I have been wrenching and detailing for a long time, how I never heard of an ultrasonic cleaner before is beyond me. I am amazed at how well it cleans. I did some research and found out you can clean just about anything. I will be buying one. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I had known about it on the 60, out there with a wire wheel on every bolt and nut...now I throw some windex and water into their ziplock baggie and put the baggie in the basket. Doing it that way you can run different cleaners for different parts. I have simple green in the machine.

Weekend progress...interior cleaning #3, the last scrub down. We washed inside all of the doors, hooked the hose to the house hot water, some dawn dish soap and scrubbed. Used a shop vac to suck the dirt and water out of the bottom of the doors, rear cargo areas, pillars, anywhere dirt and leaves and other funk could reside.

Soaked, scrubbed, and Meguires on all cabin air pieces. The puzzle pieces are laid out and ready.

Went ahead and flushed the heater core with a white vinegar mix.

On the agenda this week...replace and configure all vacuum lines, replace TPS and reinstall air intake system, replace fuel filter and blow out lines, inspect and evaluate gas tank. Drain Transmission, TC, and Diffs then pull some covers.
