Higher pressure means less load on the engine turning a flat tire. I run my Toyo m/t at ~45 psi and haven't needed to air them down yet to get anywhere. The ride is smooth and quiet. Gas isn't cheap anymore, but air is free and more air, helps you to burn less gas.
So in a round about way, full tires=free gasoline.

Wear pattern depending on rim width will tell you a happy pressure as well.

We used the chalk the tread and just roll it fw and back to see what the contact patch actually was doing….

Howdy everyone. Been a second since I’ve really paid attention to Marge but she’s gonna get some love coming up.

This isn’t really a fix or a repair but I’m looking to add a jerrycan or an extra container of gas to the outside of Marge somewhere. She’s bone stalk outside of the lift the PO put on her.

I’d welcome any and all ideas as to what direction I should go in to carry more fuel for this thirsty gal.

Cheers 🍻

@bobm @scrapdaddy thank you for your replies. Definitely going to go the jerry can or jerry can adjacent route.

I did some mud searching and interwebs searching yesterday and it looks like rear bumper or a roof rack are the best choices. It appears the cheapest direction might be a Jerry can holder on a roof rack. Marge did come with a sets of Yakima towers and bars so maybe I’ll go that direction. Stay tuned Black Friday is coming…

Ok this isn’t really contributing to the build but it sure as heck contributed to drivability and I need some feed back.

I’m running 265/75R16 KO2’s on Marge. Picture attached. As the thread states I have dang near gone through all steering components other than shackles and shocks. I’m happy with the steering as it stands, could maybe be a bit better but not much. Just for S’s and G’s I upped the front tire pressure from 30psi to 40psi today and it felt like I gained power steering. I know I know a DUH moment for sure.

Is 40psi too much to run these tires at? It says they can go up to 80psi on the sidewall but that seem ridiculous to me. How would I even know if 40psi is too much? A lotta shakes and rattles seemed to dissipate as well at the increased psi.

Any and all conversation welcome. Not that I’d expect anything else from the sty…

On the tire topic, the most scientific way to confirm correct pressure for your vehicle is get a tire temp sensor, go for a drive and check temps across the width of the tread. The goal is to have even temps across the tread. If you have higher temps in the middle, this indicates over inflation. Lower temps in the middle indicate under inflation.Tire pressures are vehicle and load specific. What is stated on the sidewall is an overall max pressure from the tire manufacturer which has no relation to the actual vehicle they are mounted on. Another technique you can use if you don’t have or are inclined to purchase a tire temp sensor is get some liquid white shoe polish and paint an area 3” wide across the tread from inside to outside. Drive the vehicle straight in a flat area for a few hundred feet and check the painted area. If it looks all worn evenly across then pressure is correct. If the inner area is worn more, then you are over inflated. If the reverse is the case you are under inflated.

Hope this helps.

On a 55 topic, thanks for posting your journey! I’m considering picking one up to provide my 60 company and your thread has been an inspiration.

Cheers, James

Marge got some white lithium love today. I was tired of all the door handles sticking when we got in and out so I had one of my boy actuate the handle while I blasted everything with white lithium grease. I gave all the mechanisms a healthy coat.

The passenger side front interior handle has been broken since Marge came home with me. Swapped it out with one of my donor door handles. Unfortunately broke the plastic thingy that screw into the door trying to put the pin back in. Ended up using the donor doors plastic doohickey as well. I hate when stuff like that breaks! I could probably knock this job out in 15 minutes now but figuring it out first time was a PAIN!

Also, is anyone making repop springs or has found replacements for the interior handles? I feel like I bought some maybe at one point but can’t find them. My springs are very tired.

Is this something McMaster -Carr would have?
