@MacDaddyRabbit unless I’m completely missing something (totally possible) the linkage will only fit with the upper fire wall bracket from the “front” as it simply slides into the hole. Totally see your thought process from the first pictures I posted however.

Nothing will be modified! My cruiser gymnastics are done for the day. I forgot how absolutely ridiculous it is to get the manifold bolted back up. I was seriously thinking about harnessing myself to the framing of the steel buildings ceiling so I could utilize both hands at all times rather than having to support myself with one and attempt to thread a bolt with the other while simultaneously organizing the manifold to get the holes to lined up 😂😂😂. Cruiser therapy complete for the day.

All suggestions or advice will be reviewed over a nice NW IPA.

You have more patience then me... yeah I saw from your pics the rod only inserts one way...
but my thought is you had the perpendicular coming up from the gas pedal attached to the linkage on the drivers side, which would mean the assembly may need to be simply rotated 180 degrees and the perpendicular gas pedal rod attached on the passenger side....that would realign your carb linkage 180?

but we'll all know tomorrow if not later tonite...

Here's a late nite thought.. your firewall bracket is not OEM 55, but from a 60 (or some other model).. I looked at images of installed fj60's and that may be the problem.. I went to SOR, and the image (drawing) does not look like what you have... maybe a PO changed the bracket when installing the aftermarket carb.... ??
I'll check my trucks tomorrow.. mine are 77.. what year is yours.?
right now betting its the firewall bracket..

This could be on the money! Mine is a late 77’ production listed as a 78’. I’ll jump on SOR and take a peak.

Just looked at a pic of one Shmukster posted for sale a while back... it's from a 76 (same from 74-80) and it IS different... there's the problem/solution.... I'm feeling better so I know you are...grins. learning as well...

:flush: well poop.... wishful thinking on my part and may be WRONG AGAIN! I've looked at it too f'n many times and now I'm thinking you do have the correct accelerator torque bracket ...

YES! @MacDaddyRabbit now to find the correct firewall bracket…. @bobm, one PO fix at a time first time diggin into Marges bonnet. Gotta take it slow or I’ll be kicked out. That line goes to the charcoal filter. I think it’s most likely part of emissions system that has been removed. Maybe the dirt is acting as a filter 😂?

If anyone has the correct firewall bracket I’ll absolutely purchase. Sunny day here in the PNW and camping is right around the corner.

Let me look tomorrow, I also bought this set up from Matt, had heckuva time getting all the pieces together (all lines up and ready but not entirely together. . I know I have another firewall bracket. This coming off late 77 40.

I’m at my trucks. Both have the perpendicular rod coming up from the gas pedal linkage oh the passenger side of the accelerator linkage. My hope is once you do that, it basically rotates your horizontal linkage to the carb 180-and it should be GTG.

Ok moved the vertical rod that attaches pedal to the pivot point on the firewall from the driver side to the passenger side. No dice. The entire linkage is still to long to fit on the carb studs. I’m out of ideas.

1. This rod is too long.

2. Manifold is wrong for this year/setup? The part number of the manifold is 17111-61010. Production date of 55 is Nov 77’.
3. I have no idea 🤣

Hows the rod attached to the bracket bolted to firewall???
It's got the ne of those 'balls' on it that clips into the perpendicular rod...
Your close... I took pics of mine today, but they arent real good/helpful. I'll post in a bit...
Im sticking with you've got good linkage.. and probably the correct manifold...I'm suspicious of the torque bracket and the washers/grommet
between the bracket and the firewall...
Suggestion: (and only a suggestion to get over the hump) Remove the current washer between the firewall and the bracket and use a thinner gasket... and take a hard look at your torque bracket and see if it's giving any indication of ever being misshaped to accomodate the previous carb....
