Ok next task. Install Marks rebuilt manual steering box. Removal of old box shouldn’t be an issue. Where I’m scratching my head is where to instal the pitman arm on the sector shaft of the steering box.

The FSM references mating marks on the sector shaft and the pitman arm. I think I see the ones on the sector shaft (red arrow) but can you guys confirm I have the arrow pointing to the correct mark on the pitman arm itself?

Looks good to me, but I would do a few dry runs before you torque down on the nut.
Cycle the steering lock-to-lock and make sure you get full range in both directions, w/ no hitting anything other than the steering stops on the housing.

Well I opened up the parking break….I knew it was going to be a can of worms. On my 40 series’s and all my 55’s I’ve never had a working parking break. It’s time I learn. I have the rebuild kit from cruiser outfitters and order other bits and bobs from toyota including a new seal.

If anyone has any sage words of advice I’m all ears.

I was gonna comb through the 40/55 section tonight and see what I can find. I remember a double seal??? But can’t find boo about it. High temp silicone/RTV on the splines? Looks like that had been done previously.

Double lip seal from Marlin IIRC

Wasn’t a difficult job in the least, got the parking brake back together and took her for a spin. Awesome. Definitely needs an alignment and I still have to order shocks. If anyone is new to fixing the parking brake don’t be afraid. Rebuilding knuckles is waaaaayyyyy more involved. I did not use the

Don't forget to stake your nuts!

Nice work...

Ok, got phase one done today which included double checking all my previous work. Randomly cheking torques on things I could reach and re-bleeding the brakes. Had a bit of 90 weight on the bottom of the parking break…..I’m hoping it’s just from the bits and pieces I lubed up while putting everything together.

I have a big work project starting tomorrow so I won’t get back at Marge for a couple weeks.

@ToyotaMatt be prepared for some PM’s mid March. I’m gonna need some hand holding getting this back together… going back to OEM set up will be phase 2.d

Phase 2 got underway. Dismantled the intake/exhaust and got rid of the non OEM carb. Some PO had cut what looked like pieces of tin to use as shims to mate up the headers and the intake. Trying to noodle the best way to put it back together. Thinking might just buy a washer kit at harbor freight and cut to fit, mix and match washers to get everything to match up. Mocked up the city racer carb and the @ToyotaMatt throttle linkage kit. The OEM gas pedal with the hand throttle accoutrement went in pretty easy now I gotta figure out all the linkage that Matt sent!

Had to get rid of the block heater I didn’t even know Marge had in order for the OEM pedal to fit. My pictures aren’t uploading or I’d post some more!

If anyone has pictures of the stock linkage set up from firewall to carb I’d welcome them.

Crap Matt I can barely upload pictures. Now you want me to figure out some other platform 😂😂. Honestly I think not having hardline interweb and a weak cell signal makes posting difficult. The joys of living waaayyyy off the beaten path.
