I like the way yours sits, mine had the opposite problem. my solution is a fat girlfriend to sit in the back

Mj, Like I said, I like the stance it has now. The front seems almost perfect, you could go a tad more vertical, but not much more IMO to keep a nice ride... When I added my rear storage box with gear I dropped over an inch (1.25") in the rear.

Are you adding your roof rack and getting a new rear bumper? I know your building a rack.. and thought I saw where you were looking to put a different rear bumper on... I'd wait until all your add-ons are installed and then see where the rig sits... I'd hate to see you get it level and then add stuff and need to reverse things or add more a second time around to get you where you want to be.

Mike, I'd like to stay away from the fat girlfriend thing lol.
J, it just doesn't look right too me.. Maybe I am just over thinking the whole thing. Yes to the roof rack and no the the rear bumper, I am looking to build some rear quarter panel protection in the future and just add it onto my current bumper. I will build a rear storage compartment and see what that does. If that doesn't work then I will probably just yank a leaf out of the rear. I put my rig up on the lift and looked at the front hanger and it wouldn't be to hard to move it foreword an inch. I will keep that idea on the back burner for now and focus on the less extreme options. Thanks guys!

Cheap way to gauge weight and the effects it does to your rig...... Quikrete from the hardware store. A few bucks to see what adding things will do.. Roof rack approx 60#s, rear cargo drawers.. 120-150#s.. (3/4" plywood weigh around 70-75# a sheet) plus gear weight....

Oh and adding a 37" spare (in the future) on the rear will be another weight calc.. especially sice it is on the "end" of the rig, more down weight added IMO..

Just food for thought Mj..

Or it sounds like you could get Mike's girlfriend over with a friend or two.... HA, sorry Mike had to man....

J, that is a great idea! I actually have about 10 bags laying around in the barn. I will have to try that out before I do anything. And I met a guy on the trail yesterday that has a set of 37 military MTRs on black steelies on his fj80 that have around 65% tread. He said he might be willing to sell them pretty cheap so 37s might be in the near future for me!

Ask Mike, but I think Military 37s weigh approx. 140 vs my style 37s at 110....

Mike's 37s probably weigh more since he has the double beadlocks and rock rings. I think they are 140 like you said.

yeah they are about 140 to 150 LBS depending on what you have in them. They are a B*tch to change out and lift. Once you go that route you'll probably notice your brakes need an upgrade, so go ahead and plan for a fzj80 rear axle too.

I have a FF rear axle that is getting shipped over from Guatemala. So hopefully I can figure out a way to put rear disk brakes on that. I can already tell even with 35s that I need better brakes.

good stuff, looks like you got a game plan at least. there are rear disk kits available, with your welding skills should be easy.
That video I posted up was with drum brakes, had to use the gears to slow down enough to stop. Was not a happy day that one.

Mike, thankfully I didn't have to experience that yesterday, but I know on the street my front brakes over power my rear drums a lot. If I had to slam them I would be screwed..
J, I think I have seen that kit somewhere on mud, it doesn't seem to be a tough install.

I wouldn't steepen the front angle, I would seriously consider reducing the rear shackle angle if the weight doesn't clear it up you'll get more travel and potentially a better ride. I would be looking for ways to lower it, that is a very tall 60 for taking off-road. Great looking truck.

I am leaning more towards that. I will most likely throw some concrete bags in the back for now and see if that fixes the problem and then proceed to do the mods that will increase the weight. I appreciate the compliment.

My grandpa and I built a new shifter knob this weekend and I think it turned out pretty cool. It's made out of walnut and we formed it with a rasp and sandpaper.

Also finished up my roof rack, I didn't get a chance to snap any pictures. All that's left to do is get it powder coated somewhere and figure out a ladder system. I will probably end up utilizing my empty rear swing out and make one that bolts up to it.

Nice Mj. I likey...

Its those things/memories no one can ever take away.

J
Thanks J. And I totally agree, I come up with the ideas and he helps me build them. It's always nice to have a wood nut in the family!
