Archie, the original line has a ribbed exterior if that matters to you. I think someone makes it for early VW's. I solved that problem for myself....
Toyota hose I used has 1 rib. JohnYeah, that's why I am looking for spec information on OD & ID so that I can find an outside supplier. I know Trico made some that has ribbs. A closer look at the picture John posted revels the existence of ribs on Toyota hose, but I may be wrong. May be John @pardion can confirm that.
I think the only "really-old FJ40" I've seen here in New Zealand is this one which the owner told me he imported from the USA when he emigrated here:

And I know it's really an FJ25 but the shape/style still says "40-series" to me.
Apart from this I've noticed only 1970s-onwards models here.

Yes, the F135 pumps featured the straight water pump inlet and used two small hoses with the steel "S" pipe between. A later F145 or F155 pump can be used with the later hose, however.
