I’m not at the same place as the clutch is right now but yes: Particular shape of the splines. I’ll first try to find that Chevy clutch disc on this side of the ocean.

He’s at it again! Nice find mate! Looks very solid.

Whats going on with this drive shaft angle? Is this normal for (early) FJ25? When we put in wedges to correct the angle the shock connection does not line up.

Take the wedges back out. You can’t tell what your pinion angle is really going to be until the springs are fully weighted. And those springs have a lot of arch.

Yes we took the wedges back out. The picture is with the axle bolted flat to the spring. We loaded the springs and the angle stays about the same. It is way off. The springs are parabolic and a bit stiff I'm affraid. They were with three but we took one leaf out.
The current angle seams like it originaly was because the damper pins are paralell. But this is a 25 with a lot of history, lots of PO repairs. So things might have been changed.

Since you are at the very beginning of your chassis assembly, and you are using lift springs, I would consider removing the spring center pin and experiment with moving the axle backwards and forwards until you get the best shock and pinion angle, and redrilling the springs for that location. I highly doubt that the spring manufacture had a lot of data point inputs on FJ25s.

Thanks. Will consider that. These springs are just a set that a 4x4 shop had lying around. For cheap and it fits.

It will probably vibrate like this. Still strange that the damper pins line up in this position.

Also wondering: how do other 25’s axles line up?

Well, as i said, I would wait until the body was on, because you also want to see how the tire sits in the wheelwell opening as you’re playing around with things.😉 I did this on a customer’s rig about 5 years ago, and ended up moving his front axle one inch forwards.

Not the best angle, but only photo i could find of the rear axel. I can get some better pictures this weekend if you want. This is a 58 FST FJ25.

Thank you. I’ll check our axle with your picture. If you can post a side picture would be nice.
