Don't have any numbers but mine gets very toasty regardless of outside temps (lowest has been right around 0 F)

I've actually been using mine too. And it gets hot enough to make you uncomfortable. That's with the rear heat off. Maybe your heater valve isn't letting enough through?

This "arctic storm" also helped me discover only half of my rear defrost works, but that's a different booger.

That sounds a little odd. I've been driving in mine for the last few winters in freezing conditions and have not used the rear heater in years. I've never experienced any issues with the truck not warming up without the rear heater.

You could try flushing it. Removing the dash to replace the core will not be a good time.

That's a lot of work just assuming that's the issue. Stick a hose in one end of the core and watch the flow out the other end.
If it flows good then check it off the list.

True it is a lot of work, but after playing that game with my radiator and seeing it flow as much water as I could push through it with a hose, and then taking it out and cutting it apart and seeing the crap inside it, I will probably just replace it. If it does have a bunch of crap in it I would rather just get that crap out so it doesn't block up any water passages or the new rad.

No issues running only the front yesterday scoping out some campsites. Would open rear windows some to cool the LX. Later in the day had climate control set about 68 and the truck stayed plenty warm with temperatures in the 30's all day.

I can't speak for anyone else but the heaters in my Lexus really kick out the heat. I rarely have my rear heater on for more than a few minutes, so primarily only run the front. I live in Colorado and we see a lot of 30 degree weather. Mine also gets up to heat really quick. Even quicker than my Land Rover.
I would think you might have a problem somewhere if yours is struggling like that.

I have never needed the rear heater in mine and setting the temp to 25c (70is f) when it was -20C (-30ish F)out side netted tropical heat the entire time.

I reverse flushed my heater core when I got the truck and got all kinds of nasty out of it.

Coolant filters should be high on everyone's list of preventative maintenance on these things.

Scott,
awesome build!

AWIC question:
how is it running washer fluid compared to coolant? Are there any corrosion or freezing/boiling issues?
I'm running water/toyota red in mine but am tempted to try the washer fluid mix if it's superior in cooling with no drawbacks.

thanks!
James

First,

No issues at all with the washer fluid. It's ethanol or methanol mixed with water and dye. Freezing points vary based on brand but I make sure I get fluid with no other additives and a 0 rating, I have seen -20 fluid but not easy to get in Texas. As for boiling the system is never anywhere near that hot. At it's hottest the fluid in the reservoir is maybe 95 degrees. I didn't do it for superior cooling I did it to gain capacity in my system by combining the two reservoirs.

Thanks, that is pretty clever!
my gears are turning... :)

Blowing my own horn but I really like the idea. I am using a stock windshield washer pump, a 20gpm pump for the A/W intercooler, you have slightly warm windshield washer fluid that helps clean the windshield and more capacity for your A/W system. I have about 6.5 gallons in the system.

Question?

Awesome rig man! ;)

Where did you buy the LED bulbs and about how much they cost?

Thank you!!

LED lights about a 15-20 min job. Replaced the map light, 2 dome lights, 4 door lights, and 2 rear license plate lights. I bought LED's for the front markers but 1 of them was DOA.

Hard to tell in the crappy pics but a factor of 5 brighter then the incandescent bulbs they replaced. In the pic I put one of the old bulbs in to try and show the difference.

Awesome build scott, I've only read about 5 or 6 pages, looks great!

Sweet!! You must have been very good this past year for Santa to bring such a great gift. Early even!
