Haha nah this is just a weak little mall crawler, I am going to stay stock as long as I can. I just had too many issues with the last 80 axle I tried to strengthen. I hope to not have this truck in a position to require it, but we will see.

Quick update, the rear Spartan locker is great, it has quieted down a lot from the first day of install. And having the center diff lock button wired it can be used to essentially lock the rear when needed.

Exactly!! I was trying to say that and no one believed me! My aussie is the same way. With the center diff lock off, it just acts like an open diff except some clicking in corners. Push the center diff button and it locks the rear up. Push the button and it unlocks the rear. Pretty neat side affect i was not expecting.:cheers:

I'll agree to this as well! With center unlocked, I can't even tell I have a locker. Engage CDL and it locks right up!

Well....... I can't leave well enough alone.

I am doing a turbo.

Ordering everything now:

Turbo - Borg Warner EFR 7670, right between a Garrett GTX3076r and a GTX3582r. Twin scroll T4 housing, .92 A/R
GTX3076r - 58mm Inducer, 60mm Exducer
EFR 7670 - 57.6mm Inducer, 62mm Exducer
GTX3582r - 58mm Inducer, 68mm Exducer
borgwarner-efr-7670-turbo-2-0.jpg

Injectors- sized for 85% IDC, stock fuel pressure, 450-500hp flywheel ~565-625cc

Tuning is still TBD, will be working with JMS Racing to have it tuned. Possibilities are PROEFI, Haltech, Motec. Musts are multiple maps for various boost and octane ratings.

EMS Powered will be doing the fabrication, well if they agree to it. ha. Will be w/a intercooler, unless Baktash and Marc can find some possible way to do a/a.

Wish me luck.

Hehehehe some how I knew this was going to happen.

For management use what ever system your tuner feels confident about tuning and has lots of experience with it. I have seen ProEFI used in the past and its really not performed as advertised. Not only in its ability but its chunky tuning software. If you ever plan to get into it to make adjustments down the road I would caution against the ProEFI.

Look forward to see how this turns out.

Haha yeah. I thought I could let it be, but after the Landtank MAF business, I was telling myself if I could just get a little more power I would be satisfied with it. I would have been satisfied with 15-20hp, but after wasting $650 and 2 days off @$700+ a day and got nothing I knew I screwed up. The wheels started turning.

The minimum ROI for me to turbo is 300awhp, so just over twice stock, anything less than that and the costs don't justify it in my mind. I tried to pick the very smallest turbo that would make 500hp at 5000rpm's on 4.5L so lag would be kept to a minimum. Borg Warner says I should see 5psi at 1000rpms. And full boost by 1400rpms.

JMS is very familiar with the 3 ECU's I listed, they really like PROEFI and just tuned a 1400hp twin turbo 5.0 mustang on it. Obviously very different platform from our 80 series but I trust the tuner and have watched him he is very methodical and takes his time. I like motec but the price is steep. Haltech is another great option. I will give them my requirements and trust their choice.

the writing has been all over the wall... can't believe it took you this long to commit! You must have commitment issues!! :)

Injectors -

Ok so I did some homework looking for proper injectors. EFI Hardware seem to be very popular, and I was ready to go with them. But found a better option for my needs:

Siemens FI114961 646cc cone injector, should fit my needs well.

Yeah I haven't really been keeping up with that list from the first page. Lol. But if you can think of some must haves that I haven't thought of, let me know. I am kind of new to this 80 series thing.

Wanted to try and gather some pre turbo data, not to mention it was a really nice day out and I just wanted to go for a drive. lol

So I drove about 40 min into Texas "hill" country.

With the cruise control set at 70mph GPS/ 63 speedometer.
- The highest water temp I could get was 186 degrees with 91 degree intake air temps

Sitting idling after an hour of driving
- Water temp was 193 and 141 degree intake air temps

Also I know I have pre dyno data but one of the biggest complaints is that the 80 doesn't have any power to pass etc. So I figured I would record a 10-80ish mph pull at WOT. The pull was done on an incline and the same incline will be used post turbo.

Actual pull was 10 to 83mph, the speedo is off 12% because of tire size.

What I am hoping to compare will be increases in water temp, both at highway speeds and at idle, as well as power in terms of acceleration.

Piggyback computer is here

Getting closer the new Piggyback Computer showed up today. Should allow for a very flexible setup.

Works with latest OBD-II (or older) race vehicles including those with variable valve timing
Variable valve timing controller based on engine RPM and load
Injector inputs with simulated injector load used when remapping OEM injectors
Injector controller for either remapping of ECU output (+/- 100% trim) or as a stand alone extra injector driver
21x17 maps with configurable load and RPM breakpoints
Analog in/out for remapping/clamping MAF

F/IC can draw power from PC USB for quick and easy calibration changes - even when it's out of the car!
On board 64K datalogger
Drives high or low-impedance injectors with use of Peak & Hold Injector Driver Box
Up to five channels of timing retard
On board 41PSIA (25PSI boost) manifold pressure sensor

Just for others considering this path, I thought I would include some of the possible costs. It is going to vary widely. And I figure there could be some "Stages" I will be doing what I consider stage III to start and then go stage IV after I get the computer dialed in.

Stage I - Y-pipe, turbo, and stock computer - low boost equivalent to TRD Supercharger system
Stage II - Intercooler
Stage III - Piggy Back Computer
Stage IV - Injectors, Fuel pump, and transmission work

Stage III
Turbo - $900-1900
Computer - $600-2500
Intercooler - $200
Heat Exchanger - $300-400
Electric Water Pump - $250-300
Hoses, and fittings, couplers, misc - $600
Fabrication - $???

Stage IV
Injectors - $500
Fuel pump - $320
A343F Valve Body - $1400
