Fire up the welder and gain 4" of clearance reworking the sliders around the skinny cat.

I can barely make out the exhaust end in the pic showing the muffler back, but does it cut level with the bottom of the frame rail? Is that the "tucked" version?
 
Yes it is tucked above the bottom of the frame rails, with a turn down that is cut about level with the bottom. Not sure if this is a better picture or not.

This isn't a serious rock crawler so I wasn't worried about it too much, I just asked them to look at it and give me something that makes sense given the powder coat scraped off of the 4x4Labs bumper from dragging the rear.

Yeah creating an exhaust must be a fine balance some people are going to want them tucked up out of the way others are going to want a big shiny tip showing, hedging your bets and spending the money for a production run must be hard.

I was talking to Baktash about this and I don't envy his job at all. It must be impossible to try and stock a part when everyone is going to want something different.

That's precisely how I wound up with untucked stainless. Requested aluminized tucked, but agreed to stainless due to logistics and production runs.

I can't weld stainless or it'd already be done, but plans to raise like yours is depicted.

I wipe mud on the tip to conceal the bling. Bahahaha.

Wishing I'd have gone through mine this thoroughly.
 
ok gosh darn it, i want to see how you can use that skinny cat and not get a po420 code! Can you please show me shots of where your O2 sensors are mounted?

I ask because i'm dealing with it now.
 
Well I don't have the truck back yet, but they are delivering it now and should be about an hour and a half out. I will definitely give you an update on how everything works.

For those of you asking about cost, the final total came to $7200! Haha, maybe I should have done a motor swap. lol.

lets be honest though, that's including some extra bling that you didn't have to have (but we love it), a new entire exhaust system, machine shop work, belts, hoses, fluids, spark plugs and paying shop rate labor! And, you now have a VERY reliable power plant that you can buy a part for anywhere.

I seriously doubt that by the time you bought a crate engine and we will assume it's brand new so you are at the same internals level as you are with the 1fz, all the custom hoses, motor mounts, radiator shroud, radiator and mounting it, any adapter plates needed to mount it to the transmission, shop labor.... i bet you would be at the same $ figure.

Oh haha yeah I was saying it tongue in cheek, it was a little more than I expected but the work was very good, I am super happy with it and I feel like it's exactly what I wanted and that is a super reliable motor that can go anywhere and be good for another 17 years :)

Plus the new exhaust sounds badass!! Haha!
 
Oh and I drove the truck 50 miles today with no P0420 code? I will drive it a bit and make sure I don't get one then I will get you some more specifics on O2 sensor placement.

$7200 is a good price if you got quality work (subjective up front, objective on the back side).

There is no way you can do any engine swap correctly, with new OEM parts for that price. Not happening.

Good work ...

Oh I know Beno, I was joking about the engine swap. I want this truck to stay "stock" and yes my '71 with the V8 and 80 running gear cost me $19k in labor alone. I think people live in a fantasy world sometimes when it comes to the costs associated with working on cars.

Well put 130 more miles on the truck just wanted to make sure everything works great, no leaks, etc. Truck is running so much better! More power, and better MPG. I would see maybe 13 on the highway, for the last 180 miles I am averaging about 16.4. Not sure if it was valves being done, or the new exhaust, but very nice! I am hoping to swing by the dyno and get some new numbers for EMS Powered's exhaust, and hoping to pick up a Landtank MAF housing and test it out as well, but for now they are out of production, if you know anyone that has one, let me know. Thanks!
