Looking to transplant a 3uz with VVt-I into a 1994 1FZ-FE

You'll realize how "custom" this whole job will be, realize it'll cost a ridiculous amount, and then even if you can afford it, you'll realize how much better your money will be spent on something else.

I know, its not going to be a nice bill, not sure how much when all would be said and done. How do you even calculate an ECU wiring job like that, just hourly rate?

23K for the engine I could do, but I would have a hard time convincing the wife if it pushed double that amount when it was done.

Call Christo at Slee Offroad, he will give you an accurate number. It's going to be around $20k out the door. But a 3uz really has no benefits in this application that a 2uz doesn't have, in fact it's lack of torque is a negative while it's slight weight advantage doesn't really matter when you're talking about putting it in a 5500lb truck.

And yes one off swaps are done at time and material rate not something you want to pay a shop to research and develop on your money. I think I was one of the first to do a 2uz, 9 or 10 years ago and I spent $19k just in labor.

Trust us when we say a 2uz is being done and there are reasons why a 3uz is not. :)

Thanks everyone I appreciate your responses.

Hmm now I'm wondering whether the 1VD-FTV has ever been done? Diesel is creeping back as the best option lmao

It has been done, but not in North America. A 1HD-T or 1HD-FT would be far far simpler.

what does the cruiser version from Japan get you Law? Would that mean importing parts too or is it basically the same as US. Thanks,

Maybe higher tolerances? Hand made and x- ray'd for inconsistencies? Who knows. I don't really have an answer but read about it here I believe. I know the air filter for my 11 is the same as the tundra 5.7, yet when I go to the dealer for a new one they have told me they are out. I ask if they have one for the tundra 5.7...yes all day long, so far I've only notice the Japan air filter says from japan where as the tundra is "from US"

Just wondering if anybody has bolted the 'Toyota Racing Development Eaton's Twin Vortices Series Roots-type supercharger kit' to the 2uz? It was those numbers I was looking at with the 3uz that are impressive and that they'll cover the addition under warranty.

...or whether the two Variable geometry turbochargers off the 1VD-FTV had been mounted to the 1HD-FT yet?

Sorry if some of the things I ask are searchable, I still cant sit at the computer for very long with this neck injury,

Hi Scott, yeah I read that too about the 2UZ, I would definately be replacing those rods with others. From what I read, it seams an easy fix?

haha I just was looking at the way I spelt 'definately' and thinking thats not right. I googled it and got this: definately. Idiot-speak for "definitely". One of the most common moronic misspellings found on the internet.

Ouch!! that was harsh. I feel so ashamed...

2uz. They had issues with connecting rod strength...

True, Lextreme.com has solved this problem if you're into swapping them out.

Good 1UZ-3UZ reading on their site, I've found it quite helpful with my 2UZ project. It's more geared toward Supra and Lexus car swaps for the 1UZ to 3UZ engines but the forum contains some info on Toyota truck swaps.

This specialized V8 Forum is dedicated to the Lexus-Toyota V8 UZFE family (1UZFE, 2UZFE, 3UZFE and 4UZFE) Performance Engines.

Good info on the 2UZ here.

For the Toyota purist, no doubt a 2UZ would be the easiest V8 swap.

Good luck finding the TRD supercharger for the 2uz.

Could I not just buy it new? Not sure if it would fit though, on the Slee 2UZ it didnt look like there was much room :S I have lots of airmiles also if I'd have to fly, quite honestly I wouldnt mind the trip to Japan or Australia if needs must. I could arrange a pallet full of stuff :)

Thanks Rusty, there are some good links there

The TRD Supercharger for the 4.7L was discontinued years ago due to the connecting rod issues. Used ones come available occasionally but are often priced higher then new due to their limited availability.

If you don't mind cheap Chinese rods with a high mark up.......
