Hello,
So I have come to the acceptance that I need to do this by paying someone else as I am a long way off in recovery from a couple of accidents.
My 4.5 is old and leaking. Who would be willing and able to do this kind of project for me? I'd be looking at putting in a 3uz-fe with VVt-I and 6 speed auto into my 94 1FZ-FE
I would just buy the whole vehicle as I'm assuming there will be allot more than the engine and gearbox needed.
Yep I like 80 series LC that much and nope I dont want Chevy, Dodge or Diesel.
Thanks,

You would be better off with the 2uz-fe. Bigger displacement, iron block, only 4 bolt mains but not a big deal if you are not going to add a super or turbo charger. You can pay Slee Offroad to do it, but be ready with about $20k if you want a rebuilt, motor, trans and transfer case.

I like the 1FZFE and see its potential but I need V8 power. I want it to move as fast as that video but have the power to pull a tandem trailor with milled logs from the forrest in the future.
I know diesel is the better option but I dont want to hear the sound of a tractor constantly in my daily driving. I lived on a farm for 24 years and I'm past that :)
I cant get away from the fact V8s sound frigin awesome too!

Hi Scott, I read in these archives that the 2uz-fe wasnt much of a gain over the straight 6 just sounded better and guzzled more fuel being its swapping out a 4.5 for a 4.7. I dont know much about Landcruiser yet, I am very new to it but just the size of a 5.7 similar to the e-rod sounds better suited for this vehicle.

....and I'm assuming be a bit better on gas as its not working so hard?

The 6.0/6.2 is realistically probably a better option if you want V8 sound. RockJock82 actually has a done a great job with LS swaps. The 5.7L 3UR like in the new Tundra I think is still quite a ways away from being swappable.

I looked into the price of a long-block 5.7 from Yoda, if you want the San Antonio edition (tundras/sequoias) they run 23k. If you want the cruiser edition from Japan it's 28k. Take your pick.

Are the 6.0/6.2, GM engines?
I am afraid to delve into that area as I have only been in Canada shy of a decade and I have no experience or good feelings about GM. Family out here have decent looking GM HD pickups with issues that just shouldnt be happening. Then others with GM high end SUVs' failing, its sounds kinda s***ty.
Sorry to diss anyone with GM, I'm sure you grew up with them and you know what you're doing with them.
I suppose I'm an English numpty thats only used to Toyota, Isuzu, Landrover occasionally Mitsubishi :)

what does the cruiser version from Japan get you Law? Would that mean importing parts too or is it basically the same as US.
Thanks,

I know....thats the thing scott, its a new experiment that means $$....Its not just the noise I need, I need tractor power without Diesel power.....and some reliability? I woud be open to a vehicles engine I knew but allot were only little engines.

Harry, there are certainly lots of variables and they are all things each of use that have modified or trucks have had to weigh out and make a choice.

For some the cheap replacement parts and easy availability of performance parts means the GM LS series motors win

For others the fact a diesel doesn't need computer control and is only dependent on fuel makes it unique enough to put up with the noise and smoke

For me the 1FZFE was already there it is a Toyota and I like playing with forced induction so it was a no brainer. Btw I don't think my truck would have any issues pulling a log trailer, what people fail to realize is turbo size determines the power band quality.

Now the 2uz/1uz is kind of a combination of GM V8 power and Toyota durability and I really love those motors in fact I have one sitting in my garage, but I don't think you are going to get the power increase you are looking for with one of them. They will help the truck feel more modern with a vehicle that can get up to speed a little quicker but in my opinion you will still need to regear. Just as an FYI a 1uzfe makes less torque than a stock 80 motor.

Really just pick your poison do your research and jump in! ;)

GM 6.2 / LS-3 motors are a solid unit & I'll be changing my 350 out to a LS3 in my boat (23' Wooldridge) in the next 3 months - Kodiak motors in Oregon is where mine is coming from & they are the kind of place that doesn't sell things that the warrenty gets used on - it's not cheap for a marine version, but it's my lifetime boat.

Once I'm solid on the mechanics of it & all I even plan to put one in my '68 Camaro - and just leave it as is. 410hp w/ a steady tq line is more than enough to get in trouble - street version should be ~$6K from GM for a new motor.

I've yet to hear a bad comment on the LS series & esp the LS3 - and I was skeptical at 1st.

GL.

The 3uz with 6 speed will be pretty much a 100% custom swap, as in machine your own trans to t-case adapter as it does not exist. The engine alone could possibly be doable as there is a a340 to UZ bell housing, however the ECU issues will be tough to solve with a trans and t-case that are both computer controlled.

The 2uz is a better and simpler swap, and has been done before.

The later 2uz with vvt-i make about 300hp and more torque than the 1fz. The early ones only made about 240hp so you're partially correct.

IMO it may be easier to SAS a 100-series than it would be to properly v8 an 80-series.
