Hey guys, slowly trying to dial in my 1995 80. Tackling one project at a time. Wrapping up a front end rebuild, and it's time to start getting ready for what's next. I have a persistent tick in what sounds like the top end. This happens at idle and at higher rpm, my first thought was valve clearances. I know my first step is to take it apart and check them. My question is: do ya'll think that this is something that is manageable for someone who is newer to 80 series maintenance/wrenching in general? I am definitely up to the project and saving the money, but if there is a likelihood that I would seriously damage major components, then spending the extra money for a shop to do it would be worth it to me.
Thanks, Niko.

Any specific tools I need or SSTs?
If you’re just checking your clearance numbers you need a good set of metric angled feeler gauges. And depending on what you doing might replace the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals if you seals are old. Lots of stuff could be serviced if it’s old.
