400k ish

I really miss the stick shift on my old fj40

You can literally take the part number Beno posted and paste it into Google and find a bunch of sources for under the $4k reman talked about. Or you could go down to your dealer with that part number and have them get it for you just like Beno said.

11400-66041

Any Toyota dealer can get it for you.

Where? I’ve looked and don’t see them.

bought my brand new short-block from Camelback Toyota last year - free shipping to my choice of shop within town

another Toyota dealer listed a much better price online, but they got back to me saying they can't ship at that weight . . . so I had to go local, at a higher price

my block was brand new (see below)

So I'm an idiot I guess. I had looked at a couple of Toyota dealers and they said the part wasn't available. Then I branched out and found it for about $4k. That seems cost effective.

Earlier last year there was a re-man’d long block available on rockauto for like 3200$ IIRC. It disappeared, but I think you’d be far ahead with a factory shorty and a rebuilt head.

Rebuilt my entire 1FZ. All new pistons, rings, head job, bore .20 over, new timing, etc etc. all new components (starter, alt, water pump, fuel filter, plugs/belts/wires, cap/rotor, etc.

All in with labor, about $5600 installed (I pulled the motor tho)

If the bottom end truly does show minimal wear even at 300K miles. I would assume a nice top end rebuild would be the best option ?

As for V-8 swap vs rebuild. I would just assume keep the original drive train going. Possibly add the new turbo kit. I appreciate the 4.5 Liter heart of the FZJ for what it is. When I'm in the Land Cruiser, it's time to relax & take it easy.

No dealer is going to ship that even though the “shopping cart” says good to go.

They are going to call you and say we don’t ship short blocks.

That may be true for many but not my situation. I was looking at a brand new 11400-66041 NIB that just arrived when I ask to pull up nationwide availability.:meh:

Well, kinda, there had been a lot of work done by then!

It comes as a totally bare short block, like totally naked, they could at least include the dowel pins? Really need to have a core to strip for parts, need all of the studs, dowel pins, block drain (differs from original), oil filter fitting, etc. Even having the proper pin remover tool, some were hard to remove, had to make some bits on the lathe to get them out in usable condition.

It's an awesome thing to take out of the box, Cruiser porn! That said, with a good core, a good solid short block could be built for a fraction of the cost, like 1/4 to 1/2, depending on the core.

/this\ when it's a longer distance - BTDT (no-go with the any of the best prices I found online from any Toyota or Lexus dealer)

Camelback Toyota (@murf) shipped for free, at a higher total price, though

fact is: by the time you need a block, it is what it is :meh:

I think you may be right, going to take it to the mechanic, once he opens it up he can decide if it only needs a top end rebuild. G'

So what's wrong with your current motor? We have done a bunch of head gasket jobs and head rebuilds, and most all of them had a great solid lower end. No work required on the block. pistons, crank, etc. Most of these were well over 200,000 miles/

I have about 198,000. The engine is fine no major issues. Just figured for the cost of getting the oil pan seal replaced and rear main seal. I might as well put that money towards an engine swap and have peace of mind. Still looking at least geating another 30k to 40k on my engine.

Update!

I took my rig to Duggies Garage in Houston and Duc is curently working on it
He doesn't recommend a rebuild but does need a couple of repais

G'
