Im wanting to do custom set of jumper cables...
The ones I got are hard as F$%* and I want to be able to fold/roll/stash this at will.
Anybody has a source for these ?

I've got a couple of sets that are big gauge wire and pretty pliable. I'm pretty sure they came from Pep Boys.

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

ive got a set that are 1-2 gauge that are triple A brand from target and about 16 feet the rolls into a bag about 8 inches in a circle and 4 inches high. really good cables that can fold and roll

Making a set from welding ground cable isn't too hard, and you can make them whatever length you need. Hardest part was finding heavy duty clamps locally.

X2, I like the flexible welding cable as well and they stay that way. I use to cut my old welding leads up every couple of years and make cables for people. 500-600 HD clamps can be found at most auto supplies or Ebay..Amazon for around 15.00 as well as crimp lugs.

I also have a set of Voltec 2GA for the wifes DD, around 100.00 on Amazon I think.

Fastenal sels heavy duty clamps:

When I converted the M1009 CUCV from 24V to 12V start, I put a set of these clampa on one end of a set of NATO slave cables.

Retrofitting a vehicle with a NATO slave plug (and a set of jumper cables) might be a useful modification.

The NATO slave cables are very heavy gauge and extremely flexible.

x3or4 I like the idea of using welding cable.

10-fouuu on the welding cables.... good info guys... I'll go to my local welding supply shop and see about pricing.

Im going to go with some fork lift plugs on one end and regular clamps on the other end...

thats the way to do it, that way no one can steal your cables. mine are getting modified to that down the road

No, they will still steal them, they just won't be able to USE them.

I went the SB175 quick disconnect route as well. You will need the same type cables to go from your battery (HD cable lug on this end) to a bracket that you will make and install that holds one end of the quick disconnect.

One little lesson learned with this setup: attach clamps to the vehicle to be charged first, then slide the quick disconnects together. I found myself one day holding the loose clamps enroute to the stranded car, after I had slid the quick disconnects together. BZZZZZZZZZZ went the clamps as I accidentally touched them together.

With the SB175 connector in place, it is also a great way of keeping the battery in shape via a Battery Tender. I made an adaptor that goes from the two prong power cord from the Battery Tender to the SB175.

Yeah, Joey did a great write up on that install.......

I'll be going on the cheap side of things, just cables, quick disconnects and clamps.....

Don't know if you're interested but Warn makes a jumper cable kit with the quick disconnects.

snap-on use to make a jumper cable setup like the above with the large quick connect plugs, but I'm sure it was $$ and not sure if still offered. May find pics for ideas though off their site. The only problem with going that route is that the jumper cables are unique to your vehicle and you could not use them to jump off another vehicle if you can't position your specific vehicle in close proximity, which may not be a consideration but off road sometimes for whatever reason....the trail gets in the way of things. In other words you could not loan the cables to someone or let someone use them who might be in a better position to reach the stranded vehicle.

it wouldnt be too hard to make another cable thats 2 feet long or so with another qucik connect in that case. but most people carry jumper cables so i think it would be unlikely for someone to get stranded like so

The kit I picked up from Northern Tools a while back came with 30' of cable. I can park behind someone and reach to their front to jump them. Lots of length. It was also about $90 at that time, now it's far too much $.
