More cleaning and prepping on the motor today.

I bought one of these tumblers/polishers at Harbor Freight....wanted to see how it worked before I bought a bigger one. My guys spend so much time cleaning hardware, I figured this would be easier. Dump in some hardware and move on to other stuff. We usually run hardware for the day and sometimes overnight...we even do small brackets or parts. The stuff comes out pretty clean. We put Purple Power or whatever degreaser we have in there with the media.

Ran these overnight. We clean them off and then spray them with Steel-It paint. Love that stuff. Really holds up well. Today I was playing around with a wire brush on this stuff and it did a pretty cool job on them.....would need to be clear coated though.

Painted the block today in my go-to color which is always light grey. This is actually New Ford Grey. Good color.

Today we had two 348 Ferraris in the shop. 90s cars are the best cars. Well maybe not the best but they're super cool.

The 348 and 355 are the cat's pajamas. I came close to pulling the trigger on an F355 Berlinetta a few years ago. One of my favorites. Surprisingly affordable... for a Ferrari.

348s are great cars. 355s a bit more technical with their motors and suspension but oh so pretty. Maybe the prettiest of the modern cars. Certainly the last of an era.

348s are simple, reliable and fun to drive. Super simple to work on too. The community for them is really supportive....most all of the issues that they have are well documented. Really a good car for a DIY person with slightly above average skills.

They're slowly but surely climbing in value too which is great. They've always been the unloved Ferrari...were never really received well which is too bad.....Enzo had died before he gave the 348 his blessing. That kind of hurt it.

Right! That red car has about 68k miles on it and the motor has been out 4 times to be serviced. Lol. Every 15k or 5 years. We don't want the 1HZ to get any bad ideas from that car!

Lots of work this week with minimal results. Spending a lot of time resealing the motor up...cleaning, painting, etc. I'm ready for it to be in the truck so we can start the next phases. Patience is not always my strongest quality.

In between paying jobs we managed to reseal the oil pan, paint the left side of the block and get that stuff going....

Motor was super clean inside....happy about that.

My Cummins 5.9L starter arrived today....sure enough, it looks like it will be a perfect fit for the 1HZ's nose.

When I did this to my 3B starter I scrapped the long Phillips head bolts for Allen heads. You probably won’t have an issue but I stripped out two the the bolts. Probably due to it coming from a 40 year old Canadian BJ40. I’m just not a fan of Phillips heads on bolts.

Maybe soaking them in some PB Blaster would be a good idea....thanks for the heads up.

Back on the project this AM...got some nicely thermal coated parts back from our powdercoat people. I'm sure there are smarter things to spend money on but it sure looks good...

All assembled and ready to put on....tomorrow we will have a big order due in.....including new studs and nuts for this assembly. Along with a WHOLE bunch of fun stuff.

Belt, tensioner, water pump and new seals will go on tomorrow and then this thing is ready to go in. Still deciding on valve cover finish...

Oh man....red isn't even on the ballot for a vote! Lol. I think grey or black. Since it's plastic I can't do my normal textured black finish....so I will have to venture into something new.

Some important parts arrived today......radiator, condenser, AC lines and some last little bits for the motor. Hoping this is the beginning of the end of ordering parts. Between this build and the Troopy resto, I've been keeping the guys at Partsouq busy. Real busy.

We were able to change out the timing belt, front plate seals, water pump and assemble most of the motor today. Tomorrow it goes in. digging the way it turned out...
