So the second night I ran the heater for about 12 hours. I was really trying to run it as much as possible to see how much it would burn. The tank is 5L which is 1.3 gallons. When I filled up, it took .67 gallons I think. My fuel pickup is pretty low in the tank.....so I think if I used it a little less, I could get 2 nights out of it pretty easily. I didn't have it too cranked up.....maybe 50%(you can select how much the fuel pump runs.....1.7hertz to 5.5hertz....I kept mine at 2.4). I bet with 2 gallons(tank that can with it was 10L....too big for my setup) and moderate use it would last 4-5 days easy.

It's not super warm by any stretch....I wish I had a thermometer in the tent to see what the temp was inside....I'm guessing mid 60s....not bad when it's 30 or so outside. I've been in FL for 25 years....on about day 2 of living in FL, your blood is thinned out.....so 60 degrees is damn near freezing in my book :) I think if I was really doing some longer winter camping, I'd insulate my tent....insulation combined with the little heater would be really nice. As it is, that tent is an aluminum shell with some carpet and heavy nylon walls. Not ideal.

I found on the 3rd night that the smart move was to put the duct under the cover I was under......that kept me very warm. Too warm actually but easy to modulate. All in all, not a bad piece to have.

Soon I'll run out of mods on this truck I think :)
Thanks for the follow-up, very handy.

My wife and I lived in the Middle East for 11 years... and now live in southern AZ. We, and our children, have the same issue as you do... 60 degrees may as well be freezing. We've had a few nights camping here in AZ where we've all agreed we need better sleeping bags and maybe a heater. Ha!

Sad thing is, growing up in Kansas, I used to wear shorts as soon as it broke 60 in the spring!

I think you'd be really happy with the heater. You can split the ducting to feed 2 tents if necessary. There were some really cool setups in Pelican cases that are online. Not very hard to build. Pretty quiet too.....maybe a little ticking of the fuel pump/injector if you listen really hard but mostly just white noise from the blower.

50 degrees was our cutoff for shorts growing up in VA. 50 is the temp the long pants get broken out now in FL :)

What a way to start the New Year.....a very long awaited delivery from the good folks at Cross Country 4x4.

I had been tracking and tracking this since it shipped before Christmas. There was zero movement on it online stuck in Australia somewhere. Today, out of the clear blue......our DHL driver pulled into the driveway :)

I started chatting with Cross Country about this in April of 2020 I think. It was something they were looking at doing...they had the truck to test it on but they were buried with work. Our talks picked back up in November of last year......exchanged some info to make sure things on my truck were the same and what they were looking at and low and behold.....an intercooler for a super weird mutt of a Land Cruiser made a long trip from the land down under to Tampa FL.

All the parts in this kit are top notch......very well built, very very finished. Pro level stuff right here.

New hood scoop ducting.....appears to mount with OEM fasteners to the hood. This centers the inlet duct on the intercooler...the OEM one has a slight offset on the ducting.

So nicely finished.

And lots of swag. Love it.

One of our concerns was that my heat exchanger for the shower was going to be in the way of the rear braces...that looks to be the case. We'll have to pull that exchanger out, mount the frame and see if the heat exchanger can be mounted on it. I'm thinking it will fit that way. Minor issue...lots of room between frame and underside of hood.

We'll have a slight issue with the transmission dipstick....the intercooler will cover it...and the oil dipstick BUT I think we can move those a little.

Looks like an AC line may need to be repositioned. These AC lines were a mix of factory and custom when the 1FZ was in the truck. No big deal to change that.

Since we already have some intercoolers and intercooler piping going out to get ceramic coated for the car below.......we'll get my intercooler done as well. Hate to coat that beautiful aluminum piece but the coatings are very good at what they do.....keeping heat out.

This is what a McLaren 720S looks like when the turbos come out....yikes.

I’d like to see less McLaren and more Evinrude. 😁
How about 50/50 McLaren and Evinrude(and dog who thinks she's going on a boat ride)?

When I took this pic today I thought to myself, how many shops have a 720 in pieces with a Gheenoe under it. I'd say very very few.

2018 30HP Etec replacing a 2001 20HP 4 stroke Honda. I'm thinking that Etec should make that little boat rip pretty good :)

Interesting.
That CNC milled inlet looks fresh.
Very much looking forward to seeing how this intercooler works out

I was expecting a cast inlet adapter. It's a super nice piece. All of it is....nice finishes on the parts, good instructions....all of it is much nicer than I expected. We get a lot of parts in the shop for our high end cars and this kit ranks up there.

For sure. Especially with that hood scoop adapter, assuming it'll work for the "mini-scoop" 78/79 hood. I think it will.
If this goes together nicely there's a very good chance this might be my setup too.

This was a pretty specific kit for the DPF hood.....big scoop. That hood is so tall. I'm not sure about the little scoop and the adapter but I doubt it would be an issue for them...probably just a change in the adapter. The bigger concern for them seemed to be getting the frame to mount correctly. We exchanged more than a few measurements to make sure locating bolts were in the same areas on my truck and the one they were working with(78 series with DPF hood) on site.

Seeing that the frame is going to fit, I'm hoping everything else just falls in place and I don't have to do too much work to change things.

Hello,

At first look it reminded me of plastic model kit part spruces.

Keep up the good work.

Ha....it does look like that!

Intercooler comes back on Monday or Tuesday so we can get back on this thing :)

Thanks for your great thread! It took me about two weeks to read it all; I look forward to your updates!
If you've got another 2 weeks, there's always this one :)

Time for an update I suppose......being that it's now past the 10 year (!) anniversary of this thread. Long time.

No fun trips over the winter....did a show with @RuggedBound in Jacksonville....kind of a cool, laid back show. He took my truck up there(it hasn't been out of my possession ever I don't think)....we got there on Saturday for an overnight and drove it back home....ended up going thru the Ocala forest which was pretty fun.

Fun trip and Theo(@RuggedBound) is a great guy. Hopefully the truck sold him some stuff....certainly got a lot of attention...always does :)

Made my usual trip to Sebring for the 12 Hour race this year.....didn't camp though....just spent the day there.

Turns out there was only one 79 in the parking lot......like always :)
