i just ordered a set of 9012 HIR from fine motoring.com. I am running the slee harness currently with 100wat high beams, and my 80 watt low just went out and cannot find the same ones.

Can't wait to check out the HIR

Just installed my Toshiba 9012's from Fine Motoring. Great output, will never go back to 9006's. Trying to decide if the new LED 9011's are worth a shot for the high beams.. anyone try them yet?

LED? Link?

Couldn't find any info on a led option either. Post up a link if you can!

I just got the 9012 Philips bulbs from Amazon (24 bucks each). I do not have the Slee harness, but the difference with these bulbs is literally like night and day.

From what I have been reading about them, i believe you dont have to replace the harness. They were designed to give off more light using the same amount of power. The coating on the inside of the bulb reflect heat back on the filament and make it urn brighter(hotter).

I've heard people say there stock bulbs are brighter with the Slee Wiring Harness. So that tells me the stock wiring could be better.

Well, here are my thought on the harness from an earlier post in the thread:

Having had the HIRs for several years (significant improvement), and then adding the Slee Harness this summer, I didn't notice a difference with the Slee Harness. Based on my experience, if you could only do one or the other, I would go with the HIRs. They have held up for for 3 years and about 20k mi, and I always drive with headlights on day or night.

Well, here are my thought on the harness from an earlier post in the thread:

I burnt out my first JD bulb (four years is not to bad)
So I dredged this old thread up to get the bulb numbers for a new set.

To add to the Harness Q n A portion of the thread, when I put in the Slee Harness the very noticable difference I found was the light/voltage output when idling or crawling at low RPM.
My lights with the Slee harness did not dim at idle like with my stock harness....less resistance with the heavy wire I guess.

A couple of thoughts on this for January 2012. Warning: Amazon sells the Phillips HIR9012 (low beam) and HIR9011 (High Beam) for the 80 for under 85$/set shipped, but these are the "standard kinda" 9011/9012 Halogen bulb relacements (not really HIR, but hit the lumen number to be so ascribed) that is referenced by Daniel Stern lighting earlier in this thread. To get the true HIR bulbs for the 80, Susquehanna MotorSports - High Performance Vehicle Lighting and Competition Accessories stocks the *true* Philips HIR coated bulb in both the 9012 (9006 low beam) and the 9011 (9005 High beam) bulb applications.

To the wiring harness 'upgrade' need/benefit... It depends on your voltage drop at the lights. If you measure voltage at the battery, and it's the same as at the back of the lights, the harness won't do anything. If the measured light voltage is more than .5v lower, a harness will make a noticeable difference. To the Slee headlight harness... The pic on his website shows an inline fuse for the battery feed. This is a major no-no, best replaced with a ATC type weather protected fuse. For more on the reasons why, see this thread in Winch and Recovery:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/winching-recovery/524162-aux-lights-fuse-cb.html
I spend a lot of time doing upgrades to HID lights for guys that 'insist'. Before doing that, I suggest they read these two tech articles from light guru Daniel Stern.

If that doesn't deter them, I take them for a ride in my LC with the HIR conversion, usually that does it.

FYI, HIR was patented by GE in 2000 as an alternative to HID. They have since sold off the Automotive HIR patent (kept the 110v bulb HIR patent) to Toshiba, which was the OE HIR supplier for John Deere. Toshiba since sold the HIR rights to Philips, the current supplier (Toshiba can still be found in John Deere parts supply as NOS). To imitations: There are no licensees to HIR, Philips is it. Philips has since done more development on the HIR, reducing the size of the bulb casing, and increased the output and longevity over GE/Toshiba offerings. Toshiba has stopped producing the HIR bulb, so once NOS Toshiba bulb stock is depleted, Philips will be the only HIR replacement

I didn't reference Candlepower as a source because they have been out of the High Beam 9011 supply for a while. In fact, this was just posted on the Candlepower website in the last couple days:

"3 January 2012. Out of stock on the 9011 HIR1 Types. All orders will be held unless you call for other arrangements.

They do have plenty of stock of the 9012 bulbs.

Candlepower vendor

Just picked up this thread and coming up to speed.
FWIW - Candlepower website now says they have these lamps in stock and are shipping again -- "Back in stock and shipping all back orders."

New Genuine Philips HIR1 (9011) & Philips HIR2 (3rdGen) (9012)

No affiliation - just what I discovered.

I just put a pair of 9012's in last week since one of my factory originals burnt out...WOW!!! They are significantly better than what I had! Stock wiring harness too. What an easy and cheap mod!

Mine came from Candlepower through the link above.

I may have missed this but going to ask: do the 9012 and 9011
bulbs from either Fine Motoring or Candlepower require mod's to the
three flanges on the bulbs??? For some reason, I thot the older bulbs
from John Deere but these latest ones were plug n play.

Yes they still require modifying the base. I used a file the last time, took about 3 min to do both bulbs.

Yup, using a Dremel makes faster work of it
