Fj40?

The weathered wood back ground is appropriate because the metal looks like it could be off an old buckboard wagon.

Yup, one each side. And there are clips along the inside roof lip that hold these in place vs. rattling/banging around. And the bi-fold door needs the clips on each side that these hook on to.

Not sure I would call them stays but more of a safety latch. Most these are missing. When you lift the bi-fold hatch the side track has a hook shape at the top and the shaft for side rollers catches on. Problem is you bump it just right it will slam down like a guillotine. These latches prevent that.

Air injection lines, you have a later head, 68 was first year for air injection. Btw they should be plugged if not being used.
They seem to be plugged. Thank you much for the info. I just got this beast but don't wanna make the big reveal yet

What was the air for?

Emissions. Most had plugs in 68. Rare but seen one 68 FJ55 with a air pump (smog pump). Ones that are hooked up have rail with ports these attached to then the air pump up front.

You can clean things up by removing the air rail unions and installing the approriate sized metric hole plugs. Here's an OEM option: 90340-14001

The 2Fs had 6 air injection ports, but the 3FEs only had 4. The above part number is the plug for the unused 2 ports in the 3FE cylinder head.
