Instagram Account Skimming IH8MUD Classifieds Posts

Came across an account on Instagram that appears to be skimming posts and photos from IH8MUD Classifieds section. I have attached a link below:

Typical scam, posting photos and word for word copying posts but advertising at a significant discount... they then ask for payment through PayPal or Zelle. I've already reported to Instagram, but it looks like there's a lot of people following the account and liking the posts, want to make sure they don't get a 'mud member. Good luck out there everyone!

How do you know this is a Mud member?

If they are a Mud Member you should 100% out them right here and now so the scam falls apart. Not outing them lets the scam continue and is unconscionable in my opinion.

@ToyotaMatt If they are stealing your images, file an Intellectual Property violation report on those. Reporting as Scams is super challenging to prove it's a scam and thus sufficient for removal. The sheer volume of bad s*** they have to takedown on an hourly-basis and the sheer volume of reports results in most of it being automated.

If it's any consolation, I've seen more fraudulent marketplace ads/listings for high-end woodworking/carpentry items, too (Festool and TSO products).

I think people/scammers are just more desperate so the problem prevalence may be increasing / shifting to these niche markets. It will never be solved as long as bad people exist. Say what you might about FB/IG, but at least they do invest in trying to make it better unlike Twitter.

I won't even buy from Craigslist anymore, either...it's sketchier.

It's also a game of numbers so more reports (used to...may not anymore) increased the likelihood of a piece of content being human reviewed (sort of like Trending)

I’m on an fj cruiser Facebook page. I think a dozen or more people have fallen for that fj cruiser steering wheel scam. A few months back it was an arb bumper that many people fell for on there. Before that it was trd skid plates.

From what I’m seeing the scammers are seeing lots of success targeting the Toyota 4x4 community’s. I’d expect it to continue until people wise up and stop sending money they have no way of getting back to people they have no idea who or where they are. Some of the facebook Toyota pages have more scam sellers than real sellers.

This topic of being both professionally and personally targeted here on MUD and I just happen to chance upon this dude and his freshy listing for my parts and such !??

I thought at first one if my mud buddies was pranking me or messing Around ?

I did take me like 10-15 minutes to realize it was a actual scam live in progress and I was the Victim ????

I finally was able to convince this dude , who I am now convinced is actually a possible Samali Pirate or Nigerian type Craig’s list scammer


I screen shot the back and forth , so be aware I was absolutely saying anything to make him PM me here on MUD …

But this guy is good and well versed in his Parts Pirating !

Then it got wierd !!!

He called me via the Igram phone and wanted to work together with me ??

I still do not think at that point he made the connection I was the radio plates person ???

I think he might have meet like all Trashed on DOPE or alcohol !

Because a new member 1st time Land Cruiser Owner would and could be his next target to sell phantom parts too !!!

This account stole a pic of some shocks I was recently selling here on Mud. I reported it on IG but it seems like they do not care to take the account down. With 9k followers, the longer they are on the more followers they will get and trick people into thinking they are legit.
