Glove box, air bag, center console pass side trim, fake wood trim above glove box, and panel above foot well. Really wasn't bad, getting the flap out took some patience and work. Putting flap back in was easy. Im.pretty psyched. Didn't use any glue or anything, but I can't see how it can fail.Great job….how much of the dash did you take apart?
That looks secure. If it comes apart, just redo that with appropriate glue. Don’t let a dealer take your dash apart. You’ll end up even more pissed.Glove box, air bag, center console pass side trim, fake wood trim above glove box, and panel above foot well. Took me a while and a mechanics pick to find it. Was at the front center lodged down in an indentation, in case you ever have to look again.I could not find that missing chunk anywhere in mine so rigidly braced the larger cracked part, and it has been working fine for a couple years now.
I’ll see if I can dig up some pictures.
Good info, I'll give it a better look next time I get in there.Took me a while and a mechanics pick to find it. Was at the front center lodged down in an indentation, in case you ever have to look again.
The piece out of mine was the same and it was in the right front filter housing trough just under where the filter sits. It’s a deep trough and the plastic is the same color so it’s easy to miss. I eased it out with angle tweezers.Took me a while and a mechanics pick to find it. Was at the front center lodged down in an indentation, in case you ever have to look again.
Are they going to do the R&R under warranty? They are the dealer that didn’t help me with warranty on that. At least they only charged me $70 to tell me what I told them. I hope the repair goes ok for you.Grand Rapids Toyota took a look at my flapper yesterday, ordered parts. Tried to charge me $1000 for diagnostics, I asked wouldn't the warranty cover that?
He asked how old is the vehicle. I bought it there one year ago, they've spent two hours on it, he already mentioned this is the last free oil change, wtf?
I'm pretty sure this is the most expensive vehicle this dealership has ever sold. And they act like it is just another Camry.
Is this some kind of misunderstanding? How in the hell do they think that is appropriate?Tried to charge me $1000 for diagnostics,

I think I got lucky when I had my flapper fixed I was at a dealership in Denver that sells a decent amount of LC’s and had a master tech that they put on the job. A dealership who doesn’t see the LC is not a good place to have them serviced. I am glad my free oil changes are over. Now I don’t have to worry about them touching the filters and forgetting to put my skid plate bolts back correctly. The techs you get for oil changes are just not skilled enough for the LC. I just do it myself and know it’s done right.Grand Rapids Toyota took a look at my flapper yesterday, ordered parts. Recently had my 09 serviced (unrelated to this but they did check the cabin air filter). I noticed something was wrong when my HVAC temp setting wasn't "saving" and it took about 30 seconds for it to come on after starting the car (sometimes it just didn't come on automatically and I had to turn it on).
Checked the filter and sure enough the flap was flopped down and loose, and the dash switch wouldn't move the flap. Nothing looked broken to me on the hinges. In the course of fiddling with it, it just sort of started working again. Including remembering the HVAC setting and starting immediately with the car.
However, now:
- The flap doesn't close all the way.
- If I start the car in the fresh air mode, it goes to a sort of middle position. Is this the intended functionality?
Here's a video: New video by Eli Z - https://photos.app.goo.gl/cKydnyCXrM7SjYwL9
Order of events:
- Flap is (mostly) closed, set to fresh air mode.
- Start the car, flap goes back halfway by itself.
- Press the recirc button, flap goes all the way back.
- Press the fresh air button, flap goes most of the way forward.
Sorry, all this is quite new to me. My 62 and 80 didn't have slick climate control or a fancy new fangled "cabin air filter".
The flap is operated by a shaft on the USDM passenger side of the opening. With flap open (once again, do not open by hand. Use the recirculation button on dash) remove the air filter element. Once removed, you'll be able to see where the shaft slots into the flap assembly.
I'll hazard that it is cracked but still held together by the rubber gasket around the edge of the flap.
I have a no-glue permanent fix that only requires the glovebox to be removed. I've been testing this for the past year and it can be installed in less than an hour if you work quickly. I've confirmed this fits the 2013-2015 models. I'm looking for someone with the 2008 to 2011 models to try the fix out to verify fitment for free, just cover shipping. PM me for details.
I'll post addition details in a separate thread once fitment is confirmed.
