Hi Johnny

To the best of my knowledge they still are freely available. I'm doing a trip to town tomorrow and will make 100% sure. Good thing you mention the DOT specs. I'm pretty sure they will be up to spec and will have that moulded on. We have quite a large tyre industry here - Continental (was General/Uniroyal) Dunlop, Bridgestone/Firestone and Good Year. I was in the industry for a while in the 1980's - all my contacts probably gone by now - but I know how the industry operates and can make the necessary contacts. The 1:14 exchange rate could be a great money saver for you guys. It has gone from 1:9 to 1:14 in about 18 months. To put that in perspective: an Amstel beer costs R15 in my local pub, that's $1.07. A really good Craft Beer costs R38 - $2.71. Imagine how poor I feel in NY when I have to pay $9 for a draft craft...

If you look at http://n14x4.co.za/for-sale/parts-for-sale.html you will see some cross plies on split rims for sale. I suspect these are off fleet vehicles that were changed to tubeless radials.

Hi Clemsoncruiser

The way things are going you guys will fill a container. I'm happy to negotiate and arrange this side. I love the colour on your truck.

I would be willing to be the west coast connection. I could pick them up at the oakland port here in california!

Thanks Dagha Boy, it is the factory Spring Green color. Thanks so much for looking into these tires for us

You da man Whitey!

Great! We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Back to the build. I could not resist getting ahead of myself and putting the black on the frame. I knew I should not because I still have to replace the rear spring hangers, but I had made the mistake of having the paint on hand. Fatal. Ten hours and 5 litres of paint later, I have a HUUUUUGE smile on my dial.

As you can see I've got the latest "Mother Nature" spray booth. She was kind today and kept it at a steady 99F from about 10:00 to sundown.

SPRAY BOOTH TEMP GAUGE.

The dust is proving to be a problem, especially when the damned Zebras go past. I'm thinking it may have to go to a real spray booth for the colour coats.

Welcome to MUD!

Excellent work so far despite the dust conditions you are doing an awesome job!

I have found this site to be very interesting depicting the Toyota Lineage.

I look forward to your build and photos.

Awesome mate, thanks

I would also be in for 2 sets if this works out.
Thanks

OK. I'm back from town. Visited two dealers. The tyres carry a DOT L8WX X3K.

Today's exchange rate: USD $1 = ZAR13.80

Dealer 1. $166.23 each including tube. (1 - 50.)
$148.04 each including tube. (50+)

Dealer 2. $154.42 each including tube. (Discount from the first tyre upwards can be negotiated once we can give him a number.)

These are retail prices from a small town tyre shop. I guess a discount of up to 25% even 30% could be negotiated directly with Dunlop.

Well, there it is.

JohnnyC maybe it will be possible to start that thread now with this info. These prices are worst case scenario and once we have certainty about quantity we can negotiate a final USD price. We'll get Dunlop to quote a FOB price either Cape Town or Durban - they have depots in those cities.

Freight will of course then have to be added. Again we need to know quantity to do that.

I think an official thread should be started so as not to hijack your build thread. These look the closest thing to an rk3 and there should be alot of demand here. Do they offer 15'' rim size, and we would have to make sure they can come to the states? Should be ok with the dot on there. Thanks for researching this, we have been trying to get this done for a few years!!

Dahga I think you're about to find yourself the owner of a small export business.
